The Director of Communication & Outreach for STEM will develop and implement strategic initiatives to enhance community awareness for the School of Science, Math, and Engineering at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC). This will be accomplished through online and social media platforms, engagement with various stakeholders, and by organizing meaningful events and programs that align with the school's strategic initiatives. This position will be pivotal in promoting the SME school's mission, values, and achievements while strengthening connections with the community. This is a temporary two-year position. Position may or may not continue after two years, based on funding. This is an at-will position.

Social Media Management:

  1. Develop and execute comprehensive social media strategies to increase visibility, engagement, and interaction across various platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  2. Create and curate compelling content, including posts, videos, photos, and stories, which showcase the school's academic programs, extracurricular activities, student achievements, and upcoming events.
  3. Monitor social media channels, respond to inquiries, comments, and messages promptly and professionally, and effectively manage the school's online reputation.

Outreach and Community Engagement:

  1. Cultivate relationships with local businesses, community organizations, educational institutions, and media outlets to promote collaborative opportunities, partnerships, and sponsorships.
  2. Organize outreach initiatives, such as school tours, open houses, information sessions, and community events, to attract prospective students, parents, and stakeholders and showcase the unique offerings of the school.
  3. Collaborate with alumni relations to maintain connections with graduates, engage them in school activities, and leverage their support and expertise to benefit current students.

Event Planning and Programming:

  1. Plan, coordinate, and execute a diverse range of events and programs, including academic symposiums, cultural celebrations, guest lectures, workshops, and fundraising activities.
  2. Manage all aspects of event logistics, including venue selection, budgeting, scheduling, marketing, registration, staffing, and post-event evaluation.
  3. Work closely with faculty, staff, students, and external partners to ensure the success and impact of events and programs while aligning with the school's mission and objectives.
