A Day in the Life of a Transportation Engineer
You are at the forefront of brainstorming creative solutions for challenging projects. You take part in an interdisciplinary team to deliver multimodal transportation infrastructure in a wide range of contexts from roadway reconstructions and streetscapes in highly urban settings to signature trail projects in suburban and rural areas that highlight and enhance the natural environment. You use MicroStation and Open Roads to fulfill production work on your projects. You will work to manage your own tasks and small projects; work with other staff and clients, to develop feasibility studies, concept plans, and construction documents; and work with your team to ensure that our projects are consistently of the highest quality.
You participate in business development pursuits in your home region as well as across our North American offices. Your job can sometimes be challenging, but you get to work with a close-knit team that is passionate about the work and the communities that you serve.
Work Schedule for a Transportation Engineer
This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home 2-3 days per week. The Atlanta office of Toole Design is conveniently located downtown, within easy walking distance to MARTA and accessible by several bike routes. The office is easily accessed on foot, by bicycle, and via transit.

Requirements
Qualifications of a Transportation Engineer:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering
  • Fundamentals of Engineering Certification (FE) required or the intent to obtain it within 1 year; preference given to individuals with an FE/EIT
  • 3+ years of experience, we anticipate candidates with at least 3 years of experience will have sufficient knowledge for this position
  • Proficiency in MicroStation, OpenRoads or a willingness to learn
  • Experience coordinating utility, right-of-way, traffic signals, and landscape and hardscape layout
  • Experience developing construction documents and cost estimates
  • An interest in multimodal and active transportation design
It would be a plus if you have:
  • Knowledge of GDOT Plan Development Process (PDP)
  • Exposure to construction management
  • Experience analyzing and designing stormwater infrastructure
  • Experience using stormwater design software such as HydroCAD or HydroFlow
