The Role:
The Director is a client partner, providing insightful guidance within their specialty of sustainability strategy and expanding our collaboration on impactful work. They have a knack for problem solving and navigate project details while keeping a client’s broader goals in mind.
This role sits on our Strategy Team and reports to the Head of Sustainability Strategy.
Your responsibilities will include:
Client relationship development and revenue growth
- Develop strong and authentic relationships with clients, as well as a deep understanding of their business and industry.
- Become a thought partner to clients, providing strategic counsel and supporting them to continually advance their sustainability/ESG strategy and communications.
- Collaborate with clients to build internal buy-in and senior management support.
- Foster client satisfaction by soliciting and applying feedback and ensuring project deliverables contribute to our clients' long-term goals.
- Uncover and develop opportunities for organic growth with existing clients.
- Contribute to proposals and pitches for new clients, in collaboration with the Client Engagement Team.
- Meet annual sales goals by growing work with a portfolio of clients and potentially securing new clients.
- Represent thinkPARALLAX at conferences and industry events.
Delivery and project management
- Lead an array of sustainability/ESG projects, such as benchmarking, materiality assessment, ESG reports, and/or others.
- Lead the development of work products and meeting materials for small projects and possibly new services.
- Lead project management and day-to-day client interactions for complex projects and initiatives.
- Provide subject matter expertise and guidance to clients and to tPX teammates in multiple disciplines of sustainability/ESG, such as Board governance, circularity, climate change, DEIB, ESG frameworks, ethics, and reporting.
- Coordinate resourcing needs with the Operations Team.
- Serve as the main point of contact for clients and partners throughout projects.
- Identify and act on opportunities for internal process and practice improvement.
Strategic leadership and business development
- Identify and develop new core service offering(s), including opportunity identification and research; proposal and process template development; internal training; and collaboration with Client Engagement and Operations for promotion, pricing, and capacity planning.
- Manage and mentor Strategy Team members to meet expectations or better for their roles.
- Train Strategists on communications and strategy services, trends, and project implementation tools.
Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of the value of sustainability to business and foundational knowledge of common ESG topics to guide businesses on their sustainability journeys.
- Extensive knowledge of and capacity to use tools and approaches that assess ESG risks and opportunities.
- Able to map longer-term sustainability goals, strategies, and implementation plans.
- Knowledge of ESG/Sustainability reporting process and report creation, including GRI, SASB, and TCFD.
- Track record of delivering high-quality work products and solutions that are strategic and meet client goals.
- Track record of establishing rapport with key contacts, building partnership and engaging senior executives.
- Demonstrated ability to secure work with new clients and grow business with existing clients.
- Ability to identify opportunities for the business and work with others to develop ideas aligned to business needs and goals.
- Experience coaching and/or mentoring direct reports to meet expectations or better for their roles.
- Collaborative and team-oriented, though able to draft work products independently.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to function well in a remote-first, fast-paced environment.

This is a full-time, exempt position, working remotely or from the thinkPARALLAX office in Encinitas, CA. thinkPARALLAX is California-based, so the ideal candidate will be working within three hours of Pacific Standard Time.
Compensation package:

- Salary range spans $110,000-140,000, plus bonus for reaching sales targets.
- Health, dental, and vision insurance. tPX covers 80% of your medical premium and 100% of your dental and vision premiums.
- Nine (9) paid federal holidays.
- Ten (10) paid tPX holidays during our two annual week-long company closures, typically the first week of August and the week between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
- Fifteen (15) days of paid vacation per year, which will start accruing on your first day.
- Nine (9) days of paid sick leave annually, which will start accruing on your first day.
- A professional development benefit of 96 hours and $1,500 to be invested in pursuit of your professional development goals.
- A monthly wellness stipend, currently set at $75/month.
- The PARALLAXploration travel program, including 3 days of paid time off and $1,800 to explore a new place.
- The tPX 401(k) plan, including ESG funds, a tPX match up to 4% of your salary, and immediate vestment.
- The tPX profit sharing plan, an end-of-year bonus based on a percent of the year's profit in relationship to salary and tenure.
