We're looking to hire a Director of Psychology and Rehabilitation Services at Western State Hospital (WSH), a state in-patient psychiatric facility in Lakewood, Washington. You will be serving the Civil Center of Excellence (CCE) at WSH. Our staff members provide direct care, assessment, and evidence-based individual/group psychological therapies to adults with severe psychiatric conditions. Most of our patient population is admitted to the hospital under the Involuntary Treatment Act for civil commitment for psychiatric treatment. As the Director, you will provide influence to the Psychology and Rehabilitation teams, and support approximately 75 clinical staff in support of the provision, assessment, treatment and related services provided. To be successful, you’ll need to build relationships with department staff, treatment team members, and others within the Civil Center of Excellence and WSH. You’ll provide leadership to the teams, and address areas requiring attention, monitor patients’ response to treatment to predict and provide program needs, sharing information with team members, and provide information to leadership in a timely manner to help address obstacles that the staff are encountering to improve patient care.


Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary. Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs.


Some of what you’ll do:

  • Guide and lead the Psychology and Rehabilitation Department teams
  • Provide clinical guidance to the Psychology and Rehabilitation Department teams
  • Collaborate with discipline chiefs, directors, and supervisors to integrate rehabilitation and psychological services in hospital programs
  • Ensure fidelity of psychological service models and practices
  • Participate in the Civil Center of Excellence’s Treatment Planning Performance Improvement Project
  • Participate in Clinical Case Consultation meetings providing input to treatment teams seeking guidance on treatment concerns for patients
  • Maintain the highest standard of personal, professional and ethical conduct
  • Support goals for an equitable, diverse, inclusive and accessible work environment
  • Represent Psychology and Rehabilitation Services with stakeholders, legal bodies and community partners

What we’re looking for:

Licensed Psychologists with a doctoral degree in Psychology from an accredited school and the ability to supervise and manage an interdisciplinary team, including extensive knowledge in best practices and standards related to psychological services and persons with behavioral health conditions and interactions with the legal systems.


AND


Three years of supervising discipline specific clinical staff in a treatment environment and extensive knowledge of psychological treatment models and most appropriate group and individual therapy treatments for individuals with behavioral health conditions in a secure psychiatric inpatient setting.
