This is a Promotional and Open recruitment to establish an eligibility list and fill vacancies. The eligibility list will be used to fill permanent vacancies which may occur during the life of the eligibility list. In a promotional and open recruitment, the promotional list shall take precedence. Positions in this classification are full-time 40 hours per week, 12 months per year.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Community School Program Specialist, provide liaison between the school, home and community agencies; in benefit of student academic success provide assistance to families, school and community partners; coordinate, plan, develop and implement information and educational programs with families and educators to benefit student academic success through the practice of family and community engagement (FACE); provide outreach services to the community, families, and staff and promote and assist both family and community engagement in order to provide for active participation in the socio-emotional and academic success of all students. The Liaison serves as a culturally and linguistically responsive bridge between all families, schools, students, teachers, administrators, school staff, and community.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This position will support the Community Schools Model and strategies. This position may be required to work evenings and weekends as needed. This position is only used for the duration of a specially funded program and will be terminated once the program funding ends.
FUNCTION & DUTIES
Plan, develop, and implement the family and parent engagement community component of the school's Single Plan for Student Achievement and program components of local, state, and federal grants. E
Coordinate and facilitate school site workshops (programming) to engage families and educators in academic, health-conscious, and socio-emotional success of students through a variety of services and programs designed to increase student academic achievement and socio-emotional well-being to improve their overall educational experience. E
With District Supervisor and/or designee's approval, and following district protocol, support school staff/district personnel with parent contacts, both through community visits/telephone calls to provide referrals about school, policies and programs which support family's needs to assist/improve student academic success. E
Foster relationships/partnerships with outside community and educational organizations focused on family engagement linked to learning.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to provide programs and resources that are reflective/supportive of student's needs; develop and implement methods to increase parent attendance at meetings, school engagement activities and district events. E
Collect and report on data through tools and structures as requested by District Supervisor or designee. E
Create a welcoming school environment for educational partners including parents, families, and community members throughout the school site. E
Support in coordinating family and community volunteer services at the school site(s) and recruit parent volunteers to align with DUSD volunteer policies. E
Develop, establish and coordinate community resource contacts; maintain information systems on available community resources for use by District personnel, parent groups and families. E
Monitor the use of community resources and the effectiveness of those resources in meeting school/community needs. E
Serve as a liaison and community resource for students, staff, parents, parent groups, community groups, and advisory committees to facilitate parent and family engagement and development which directly impacts student learning. E
Support and assist site-based teams (i.e. COST, PBIS, and other leadership teams), working with school site leaders, teachers and parents to address student and family needs. E
Provide in-service opportunities for school personnel working with community resources and family and community engagement. E
Interpret and translate as needed.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE, LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Associate's degree with a major in Human services, social services, social work, education or closely related field.
Two (2) years case management and social work experience preferred.
Two (2) years' experience working with community and social services organizations, or Two (2) years' experience working in a school environment with experience building relationships with families, community resources, and attendance is desirable.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver's license.
Full-time Employees earn up:
The District offers two excellent medical plans, Blue Shield and Kaiser Permanente ; two dental plans, Delta Dental and MetLife SafeGuard ; and vision care through Vision Service Plan (VSP). Currently full-time employees (employees working 6 hours or more per day) pay 20% of the premium cost for these plans. All plans are available to the employee and their dependents. This coverage is available to employees working a minimum of 20 hours per week.
Retirement benefits include membership in CalPERS (California Public Employee's Retirement System) and Social Security (OASDI). This is a joint contribution plan. To qualify for CalPERS an employee must work a minimum of 20 hours per week or already be a member, if not the employee is eligible for an alternative retirement plan.
Additionally, the District encourages employees to pursue professional growth, and provides financial incentive for classified employees completing professional growth programs. Additional benefits available to employees to which the District does not contribute include life insurance, a Section 125 Flexible Benefit Plan, an income protection plan, and a credit union.
Substitute employees are not eligible for vacation or holiday pay but are eligible to earn sick leave at the rate of one hour per 30 hours worked, not to exceed 48 hours. Further, substitute employees are not automatically eligible for CalPERS or District health benefits.
