Position Summary:

The Senior Director of Corporate Events and Conventions is responsible for strategic and executional planning for all major internal and external events and conventions, in partnership with cross functional teams. This position will primarily support corporate affairs, commercial, and medical affairs. This position will liaise with multiple internal departments and provide oversight of third-party vendors and associated budgets.

Responsibilities :

  • Direct the overall strategy and tactical planning and execution for major internal and external events and conventions - including national and regional sales meetings, annual all-company meeting, large department off-site meetings, national conventions, local conferences, etc.
  • Lead cross-functional coordination and oversee all aspects of event planning and execution, including finances, contracts, timelines, staffing, and vendors.
  • Coordinate all meeting-related activities such as venue sourcing and selection, registration, hotel rooming lists and meeting specifications, AV, group dinners and attendee registration and communications.
  • Implement best practices and develop company-wide planning standards, policies and procedures.
  • Manage inventory of booth assets ranging in size from tabletop displays to a 50x50 booth.
  • Manage conference database; data collection and entry; reporting as needed.
  • Manage external vendors, such as hotels, DMCs, audio/visual production, exhibitors, transportation including scheduling, planning, negotiating contracts, and manage expenses against budgets
  • Attend various meetings/conventions/events to provide onsite event management.
  • Manage staff members by mentoring and providing guidance in setting goals, training and career development.
  • Manage overall budget of $3MM or more.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline. Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) designation highly desired.
  • 12+ years of relevant work experience. Equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience may be considered. Experience in Biotech or related industry preferred.

  • Previous line management experience with the ability to effectively manage performance, engage team members, provide coaching, and respond to situations affecting staff.
  • Successful record of creating and managing complex project plans, timelines, budget, and critical paths.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% domestic and internationally.
  • All positions have an essential job function to be able to perform face to face work with colleagues and/or onsite in San Diego. No role is expected to be 100% remote.

Compensation : Our competitive compensation package includes a combination of both cash compensation (base pay and short-term incentive) and long-term incentive compensation (company stock), designed to recognize, retain, and reward employees.

Target Base Pay Range:

$215,000.00 - $280,000.00
