Pay Range : $18.22 - $21.00 hourly. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications. This position is Non-Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.

Summary

The UCCS Lead Barista assists the Retail Manager in overseeing the preparation of quality beverages for the campus community in the DHS Retail Big Cat Coffee shop locations. The Lead Barista must possess a spirit of hospitality and must practice service excellence. Dining and Hospitality Services operating principles are respect, trust, and growth.

This position is designated as essential services. The ability and willingness to work a variable schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is required. Must be committed to student employment and professional development opportunities for students.

Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Retail Manager in all aspects of operations, maintenance, and service from the Big Cat Coffee locations.

  • Greet and serve all customers with kindness and respect.

  • Take customer orders and process payments.

  • Prepare and serve hot and cold drinks, such as coffee, tea, and specialty beverages.

  • Store and serve small meals, pastries, sandwiches, and cakes.

  • Clean and sanitize work areas, seating areas, equipment, and utensils.

  • Restock displays and communicating to the Retail Manager any order or repair requirements.

  • Describe and have knowledge of menu items, suggest products, and answer customer questions.

  • Assist in the testing and development of beverage recipes.

Tentative Search Timeline

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • 3 years or more of experience in coffee preparation and service.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 year or more of experience in a leadership role in coffee preparation and service.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to move. Employees are required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and have fine motor skills including reaching, handling, and fingering. Must have good depth perception, color vision and field of vision. Tasting and smelling within normal range. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 20 lbs and constantly lift and/or move up to 10 lbs. In this position employees will have exposure to extreme cold and extreme heat.
