Job Requirements / Description

The Senior Manager is responsible for strategically developing, managing, and executing LCI's Heat Equity projects, their interconnections, and the systems and processes that the Heat Equity team at LCI needs to ensure success across all projects. LCI's Heat Equity research portfolio seeks to reduce heat exposure for vulnerable populations to support wellbeing where people live, learn, work, and play. Projects encompass policy, planning, and actionable data to enable communities to become more resilient to chronically hotter conditions under climate change. Current projects focus on shade master planning, policies for mitigating and managing heat in schools, and other research that informs equitable, effective, and innovative heat governance, policy, and plans.


Salary & Compensation

  • UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications

  • 3 Years Or more of professional experience involving project management. (Required)
  • 3 Years Or more of experience conducting engaged research with community-based organizations, government agencies, or other civic partners that use the research to guide public decision making. (Required)
  • At least three years of experience in, knowledge of, and passion for climate adaptation and resilience. Experience with and knowledge of extreme heat science and policy are particularly desired. (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and lead new initiatives and create new systems and processes in an entrepreneurial way. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to train and supervise staff in a way that inspires and produces excellent work. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct strategic planning and to fundraise to advance that strategic plan. (Required)
  • Excellent writing skills to prepare communication materials ranging from grant and gift proposals, technical research reports, and communication materials that are analytical, grammatically correct, and concise. (Required)
  • Strong oral communication skills, including demonstrated ability to serve as an articulate spokesperson to media reporters, give presentations with visually appealing slide decks, and to strategically plan and lead meetings in engaging ways. (Required)
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively, graciously, and professionally with senior administration, faculty, staff, clients and policymakers. (Required)
  • Ability to independently set and adaptively shift priorities as team needs shift; handle fluctuating workload; ask good questions before making strategic decisions; and focus on details while remaining a systems thinking who sees the bigger picture and sets priorities accordingly. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Bachelor's Degree in public policy, planning, social science, environmental studies, or a cognate field and/or equivalent experience / training (Required) Or
  • Master's Degree in public policy, planning, social science, environmental studies, or a cognate field and / or equivalent experience / training (Preferred)
  • PhD in public policy, planning, social science, environmental studies, or a cognate field and / or equivalent experience / training (Preferred) Or
