Job Summary

Under general direction of the Executive Director of Alumni Relations, the Director of Alumni Relations oversees alumni relations for a variety of campus-wide programs and will be assigned to serve as primary staff for one or more schools or programs. This position directs the planning, organization, coordination, implementation and evaluation of the alumni relations programs, and is a key contact between the campus and alumni population. This role will also work collaboratively with development officers to develop strategic alumni programs with fundraising objectives in mind. Primary duties include the establishment and implementation of goals, strategies, activities, and programs that enable the alumni associations to communicate effectively with and engage alumni, deploy them individually and collectively as important resources of the university, and serve alumni needs. The Director of Alumni Relations is responsible for establishing and maintaining comprehensive, service-oriented alumni programs for UCSF. This role collaborates with other UCSF alumni officers and spearhead campus-wide programs and events. The Director will also collaborate in identifying gaps within enterprise-wide alumni programing and assist in developing and supporting new initiatives. This position also serves as liaison to one or more school-based alumni associations assisting in goal setting, member recruitment, and meeting and budget maintenance.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $75,700 - $160,500 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The UCSF Foundation and the Office of University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) are responsible for fostering and strengthening the campus outreach efforts to UCSF constituents and for garnering private support for the campus and the Medical Center. In raising private support, UDAR identifies, qualifies, solicits and stewards donors for the schools, medical centers, departments and programs on campus; accepts and administers all private gifts to the university through The Regents or the UCSF Foundation; and manages all alumni relations activities, campus support group activities and campus events. The UDAR office staffs the UCSF Foundation. The office is also responsible for the design and implementation of fundraising campaigns for UCSF

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 5+ years directly related work experience
  • Advanced knowledge of issues of concern in higher education
  • Advanced knowledge of practices and procedures associated with building and maintaining effective working relationships with all levels of alumni, internal and external constituencies
  • Advanced written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including skill to produce information that is appropriately presented and effectively received by target constituencies
  • Active listening skills, including advanced critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Skill to recognize potential areas of constituency concern and address, resolve and / or mitigate problems or issues
  • Advanced project management skills, including skills to plan and implement successful events

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of the campus, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements, issues of concern and infrastructure
  • Advanced knowledge of assigned area of responsibility, for example, the campus scientific community or School of Dentistry
