Database Engineer

Location: Herndon, VA (Hybrid)

Must: Must have an Active Secret Clearance

Qualifications:

  1. 5+ years working with database solutions, preferably both SQL and NoSQL based.
  2. Experience with schema management automation tools such as Liquibase, Flyway, etc.
  3. Experience with cloud-native data services such as AWS Aurora RDS, PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB, OpenSearch, Glue, Athena, QuickSight, etc.
  4. Experience managing data sets to include duties such as data cleansing, data transformation, data loading, and data streaming.
  5. Experience implementing and maintaining common data architectures such as Data Lakes, Data Warehouses, Lake Houses, and Data Mesh.
  6. Solid understanding of Zero Trust architectures and security best practices.
  7. Experience in a DevSecOps culture + CI/CD best practices.
  8. Heavy experience and comfort level with Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, AWS CDK).
  9. Heavy experience and comfort level with Pipeline Automation Tools such as Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline, GitHub Actions, Tekton Pipelines, etc.
  10. Demonstrated experience working with production database solutions.
  11. Demonstrated experience with database management tools for monitoring and performance.
  12. Extensive experience scripting leveraging repurpose-able scripts.
  13. Significant experience working in a Team Management/DevSecOps tool on par with Jira/Confluence, Visual Studio Team, or similar.
  14. Solid understanding of cloud solutions, and an immense appetite for learning and capacity to digest new capabilities and apply them to your solutions.
  15. Must have experience working on a team, understanding that the chemistry of the team is crucial to the delivery of any solution.

Duties:

  1. Modernize a series of legacy customer applications, some of which are data intensive.
  2. Implement the new database solutions across multiple infrastructures including AWS, GCP, and Microsoft Azure.
  3. Designing and developing databases.
  4. Writing database queries to extract and manipulate data.
  5. Ensuring database performance, security, and integrity requirements are met.
  6. Troubleshooting database issues and optimizing for efficiency.
  7. Writing technical documentation.
