POSITION SUMMARY & OVERVIEW

The Computer Science Teacher will teach the computer science courses to students in grades 6-12, implementing vertically aligned curriculum to build student skills over their time at Salem Academy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach four Computer Science classes per day to students in grades 6-12
  • Use curricular resources and academic proficiency data to plan, assess, analyze and adapt daily lessons and assessments
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement innovative teaching strategies
  • Contribute to a strong school culture centered on growth and achievement by implementing common academic and behavioral procedures
  • Plan and lead service learning projects with a team of teachers

Participate in Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences each quarter and communicating regularly with families about academic and social issues

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners
  • Provide students with opportunities to apply their knowledge of computer science to real-world problems
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest trends in computer science education
  • Manage and utilize the Makerspace to provide students with hands-on learning experiences
  • Participate in weekly professional development sessions (e.g., Curriculum Teams, workshops)
  • Participate in weekly Form Meetings (e.g., grade level teams)



Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Education, or a related field required
  • Successful completion of MTELs in Communication and Literacy and Digital Literacy and Computer Science
  • Experience teaching computer science in a middle or high school setting
  • Strong understanding of computer science concepts and programming languages
  • Experience with robotics or other emerging technologies
  • Proven ability to create a positive and engaging learning environment
  • Commitment to professional development
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Authorized to work in the U.S
  • Background clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possession of Massachusetts Educator License in Digital Literacy/Computer Science 5-12
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Education, or related field
  • Experience teaching Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science courses
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Similar life experiences as our students
  • National Board Certification
