POSITION SUMMARY:
The Government Grant Development Officer (GGDO) will play a pivotal role in securing government funding to support NMIC’s programs and strategic initiatives. As the primary author of responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), the GGDO will collaborate closely with program staff to draft, edit, and finalize high-quality submissions, inclusive of all attachments. This role will involve project management of the entire proposal development process, ensuring all components are effectively coordinated and deadlines are consistently met.
In addition to writing, the GGDO will conduct thorough research on prospective and current government funders, ensuring that NMIC accesses public funding opportunities in a timely manner. By effectively utilizing available resources, the GGDO will contribute to the success of NMIC’s strategic initiatives and advancement of our mission.
Secondary responsibilities will include opportunities to support non-governmental fundraising efforts by drafting funding pitches, Letters of Inquiry (LOIs), and proposals during periods of reduced government RFP activity, as time permits.
This position offers a hybrid work environment and requires close collaboration with senior management, program directors, finance staff, and the development team. This position’s primary supervisor is the Development Director, and it will receive functional matrix supervision from the Director of Finance for technical finance issues.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Grant Development & Proposal Management (85%)
- Lead the development and submission of government grant proposals, including organizing and preparing materials for proposals and monitoring grant applications.
- Draft grant proposal narratives and compile and format all attachments (including program scopes and budgets) with material from, and in collaboration with, the development, program, and finance teams to finalize and submit grant applications.
- Project-manage the entire proposal development process, ensuring timely coordination of all components to meet tight and competing deadlines.
- Monitor and maintain a master calendar for government grants and prospects, ensuring deadlines, files, and correspondence are up-to-date.
- Actively research and identify new grant opportunities on public government websites, such as Grants.gov and SAM.gov, to support program initiatives and funding strategies.
- Facilitate the timely production and submission of high-quality reports to select funding agencies, including reviewing, editing, and writing as needed. Maintain a comprehensive library of grant-related support documents (resumes, bios, IRS forms, Board/staff diversity lists, etc.).
- Ensure acknowledgement of government funders via the website, e-newsletter, and social media platforms.
Administration of Grant & Compliance (5%)
- Facilitate the change in ownership of the grant to contract management and program teams once the RFP is awarded.
- Coordinate with program, fiscal, and performance management staff for grant administration, compliance, and fiscal oversight.
- Serve as a liaison between pre-award and post-award teams to ensure a smooth transition and ongoing compliance.
- Oversee the development office’s maintenance of grant files, reporting calendars, and internal documentation to ensure quality information management.
Financial Tracking & Reporting (5%)
- Collaborate with the fiscal department to ensure proper tracking, reporting, and compliance with grant budgets.
- Prepare and deliver regular reports for the Board and/or senior leadership, including fiscal updates.
Advocacy (5%)
- Apply for annual discretionary funding opportunities from elected officials at the city and state levels.
- Support the preparation of testimony and advocacy materials for program funding or broader organizational initiatives.

SKILLS:
- Excellent writing skills.
- Keen understanding of programs.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills for copy editing, proposal submission, and grant management.
- Ability to elicit and incorporate meaningful input from a diverse range of stakeholders into proposals.
- Familiarity with grant management, federal and state regulations, and best practices desired.
- Knowledge of the proposal process for government funders.
- Great relationship management and collaboration skills, including communication skills preferred.
- Analytical reading and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to adapt and work in a very flexible, fluid, and evolving environment.
- Basic comfort with Excel (e.g., for transferring information into funder templates or maintaining tracking sheets).
SALARY/BENEFITS:
NMIC offers a generous benefits package including medical, dental, life, and disability insurance; paid time off consisting of 20 vacation days, 15 sick days, 5 personal days, 11 agency holidays, plus the week off from Christmas Eve through New Year's Day; a 401k with agency contribution; and other benefits.
Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000
