Job Description Summary

The responsibilities will consist mainly of collaborating with the business to help define and implement analytic solutions based on their business strategy. This role will work with the IT team to extract the required data, create the analytic models, perform the analysis once the data is accumulated, and present findings and recommendations to the business. The role will work across business units in a team environment with minimal supervision.

Major Duties:

  1. Work with the business leaders and stakeholders to understand their strategies, how they align with the corporate strategies, and determine ways to use analytics to help them in decision making.
  2. Work across business units to define and develop analytic capabilities that can be leveraged to solve cross business unit challenges.
  3. Support the analytical needs of various business units, helping them with prioritization to deliver the most value.
  4. Analyze and understand Northern Trust’s core business processes and data flows to design and develop enduring solutions that provide analytical insights (both rearview and predictive).
  5. Ensure good techniques are used to report the data in a form that represents it well and helps the consumer of the data understand what is being stated clearly.
  6. Contribute to the development and delivery of solutions that leverage and extend existing Business Intelligence and analytics infrastructure, take metric governance and enterprise solutions into consideration, and follow agreed upon governance and technology policies including use of Agile or SDLC process.
  7. Assist with applying and developing statistical models/methods to address business issues.
  8. Develop metrics and create ad-hoc reporting as needed.
  9. Assist internal customers with acceptance and adoption of implemented solutions to transition to an operating model that will deliver value from the analytics solution.
  10. Ensure issues are identified, tracked, reported on, and resolved in a timely manner.
  11. Rapidly and effectively adapt to a highly dynamic and fast-paced work environment.
  12. Participate in special projects as needed and perform other duties as assigned.
  13. Foster a positive and collaborative environment.
  14. Seasoned multi-disciplinary expert with extensive technical and/or business knowledge and functional expertise.
  15. Focus of role is on execution of strategic direction of business function activities.
  16. Carries out complex initiatives involving multiple disciplines and/or ambiguous issues.
  17. Displays a balanced, cross-functional perspective, liaising with the business to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity.

Knowledge:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • In-depth functional/industry knowledge is required.
  • Highly flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Technical skills/systems knowledge (e.g. Python, SQL, etc.) is required.
  • Leadership and organizational skills are required to determine the Business Unit's goals, resources needed, and to assess and develop the skills of staff.
  • Database systems competence is expected.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and/or reporting.
  • Strong mathematical skills required.
  • Ability to manipulate large amounts of data for analytical projects and translate that data into sound insights.
  • Strong data and analytical skills.
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to work across the business.
  • Experience with SQL and Excel.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong team/relationship building skills.
  • Familiarity with other analytics tools (e.g., PowerBI, AzureML, Tableau, etc.) preferred.
  • Familiarity with relational database concepts, querying, data warehouses, requirements gathering, and/or decision support tools preferred.
  • Prior experience using statistical software or knowledge of various data mining and analytical tools (SAS, etc.) preferred.
