Job SummaryProvides dental assistance in a multi-specialty dental practice and supervises team. Oversees ordering of clinical supply purchasing, maintains equipment. Assists predoctoral students with chairside dentistry techniques and skill-sharing.
Essential Functions* Assisting faculty, residents and dental students chairside in the care of patients. Taking and developing x-rays. Instruction of preventive dental techniques and oral hygiene with patients. Maintain dental records in Axium and Dentrix.
* Responsible for training all newly hired dental assistants. Responsible for daily dental assistant assignments and ensuring patient allocation is appropriate to the level of dental assistant's training.
* Responsible for formal and informal evaluation of dental assistants and dispensary staff performance and reporting to direct supervisor
* Responsible monthly meetings with clinical staff.
* Supervises and coordinates the flow of patients to maximize efficiency
* Maintains operatories, stock mobiles and ensure regular maintenance of clinical equipment.
* Assist in ordering, organizing and managing of clinic supplies and medications.
* Overall management of dispensary and its assigned staff.
* Ensures infection control, including prepares and turns over patient operatories in accordance with infection control/sterilization guidelines; and implements proper sterilization techniques for instruments.
* Participate in staff and faculty retreats and other team building exercises in the department and Pitt SDM.
* Participate in relevant staff training as required by supervisor
* Compliance of Pitt SDM policies, procedures and guidelines.
Standing and walking in clinical area; leaning over patient; reaching for and handing items to student dentists.
