Job Summary
We are hiring for a Director, Technical Services, who will provide engineering and technical support to operations. Strong leadership is required to oversee the technical services functions at our O&M facilities and any Technical Services Managers assigned to projects.
The position will report to our corporate office in Aliso Viejo,CA, with the option of being Remote.
Job Functions

  • Provide necessary technical support for all related work for bid specification, evaluation of vendor/contractor bid proposals, monitoring of contractor work performance to assure contract compliance, and plant troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, electronic, and control equipment, programs, and issues.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the corporate technical services team. Lead efforts to provide the following services to the fleet:
    • Project Management
      • Major Equipment Failures
      • System/Equipment Additions
      • System Improvements
    • Outage Support
      • Scheduling & Planning
      • On-Site Support
    • Troubleshooting
      • On-Site & Remote
      • Equipment-Specific Troubleshooting

      • Single Point of Failure Review

      • Assist plant teams to improve CMMS content
  • Network with consultants and vendors to leverage industry expertise to be shared with the fleet.
  • Evaluate safety to improve safeguards and processes for employees and equipment. Will work closely with the Plant Operations Teams to ensure a Safety-First culture.
  • Provide solutions to help reduce costs across the fleet, contributing your technical and engineering expertise to operating teams, especially emphasizing the teams' responsibilities for design, application, and inspection of existing assets; deployment of the right materials, sizing of equipment, operating parameters, life expectancy, life extension; and/or plant configurations; root cause analysis process, evaluation of design and future operating challenges associated with existing plants and potential acquisition targets, etc.
  • Work cross-functionally and proactively to increase value; for example, partner with O&M teams for better outage planning and scheduling, leverage qualified contractors, develop component and system specifications, and remove any process bottlenecks.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical or related engineering field.
  • A minimum of 10 years related experience in the power industry.
  • Ability to Travel up to 50% or as needed
  • Experience in utility-scale powerplants or other industrial settings, with a working knowledge of power generation systems.
  • The position requires a working knowledge of major health and safety regulations, as well as environmental, federal, state, and local rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of power plant design, operations, and maintenance is required.
  • Must know the hazards involved and the safety precautions to be practiced in operating and maintaining power plant equipment and machinery.
  • Proven project development, acquisition analysis, and field troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis ("RCA") and successfully determining the fundamental process in determining technical incident RCA.
  • Prior experience leading a team of technicians and/or engineers, as well as managing a group of contractors.
  • Demonstrate a high level of good judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Project management experience in leading a collaborative team to accomplish major/minor projects, including project management software, budget and schedule tracking, etc.
  • Possess leadership and technical skills with knowledge of power and power-related issues.
  • Due diligence experience in the determination of positive/negative considerations for the acquisition of a power generation facility.
  • Have a successful track record of completing projects/assignments on time, schedule, and within budget.
  • Present a proactive, collaborative style of dealing with clients, contractors and consultants.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills, implementing resources and people effectively and efficiently to accomplish goals.

  • Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communication skills, and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools.
  • Must be cooperative with those he/she interacts with and can work without direct supervision.
  • Must know the hazards involved and the safety precautions to be practiced in the operation and maintenance of power plant equipment and machinery.
  • Work within and ensure strict adherence to all Company safety practices and procedures.
  • Problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Ability to lead and direct Plant Operations teams for projects.
  • Basic data entry/computer skills
  • Work as a team. Must be able to pool our knowledge and energy to work in tandem to completely understand and productively respond to all business challenges.
Work Environment - Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
  • Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, ear plugs, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, high voltage protective equipment and other equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties at the plant.
  • Work with hazardous materials may be required.
  • Includes working indoors and outdoors.
