About the Job
The Corporate Counsel & Director of Compliance reports to the Chief Financial Officer. This role serves as the sole in-house key legal advisor for MedPro and plays a critical role in providing expert guidance ensuring that the organization complies with a wide range of various legal and regulatory requirements while also managing any legal issues that may arise. The position manages a team of four contract and legal management and support personnel.
What You’ll Do
Legal Advisory and Counsel:
· Provide advice to MedPro leadership on a broad range of legal issues affecting the business.
· Prepare Board of Director briefings on important legal issues
· Advise on employment-related matters, including contracts, terminations, discrimination claims, and labor law compliance.
· Work with Human Resources to develop and implement workplace policies ensuring they reflect current laws and best practices.
· Stay informed and up-to-date with legal developments and changes that may affect MedPro.
Government and Public Relations:
· Represent MedPro and act as subject matter expert regarding legal and regulatory issues affecting the staffing industry.
· Monitor changes in regulatory environments and work with key stakeholders to adjust business practices accordingly.
· Interface with regulatory authorities and agencies when necessary.
· Lead efforts to protect MedPro’s business interests in light of proposed legislation and regulations, and existing laws. Prepare legislative amendments and rulemaking proposals to address business concerns.
· Coordinate efforts with third parties, including industry trade groups, lobbyists, and legal advisors.
Litigation Management:
· Oversee and manage MedPro's litigation and legal disputes, engaging external counsel when necessary to ensure effective representation and favorable outcomes.
· Develop litigation strategies.
· Mediate and resolve disputes in a manner that minimizes risk to MedPro.
· Represent MedPro and directly manage alternative dispute resolution processes.
Contracts Management:
· Oversee Contracts Manager and team and serve as final reviewer, negotiator, and manager of client contracts as needed.
· Maintain contract templates and prepare updates as required to meet the business needs.
· Review and negotiate legal documents originated by outside parties.
Compliance and Ethics:
· Interpret and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
· Conduct training programs and educate employees and management on legal and compliance issues.
· Oversee data protection and privacy compliance efforts, including GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable regulations.
· Develop and enforce a code of conduct and ethics program for the organization.
Other
· Manage all other legal-related activities, such as intellectual property assets
· Perform other duties as required
Required Qualifications/What We’re Looking For
· JD Degree from an accredited Law School and member in good standing with a state bar
· 6+ years of legal experience; experience as in-house counsel a plus
· Experience in compliance and risk management
· Ability to identify potential issues that could arise out of a business initiative
· Ability to evaluate, advise, and develop strategy to mitigate risk
· Strong negotiating and problem-solving skills
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high level of comfort in communicating with a range of internal and external audiences, including employees, leaders, clients, vendors, and regulators
· Capability to lead and manage a team
· Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
· Excellent organizational and prioritization skills with excellent attention to detail.
·Leader who excels with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced, time-sensitive, high-pressure, demanding, and complex environment.
