ResponsibilitiesGeneral Purpose:Performs postal duties in a University mailroom and through a United States Postal Services (USPS) contracted retail location.Responsibilities:Routes all types of mail including: USPS First Class, flats, magazines and Interoffice mail which requires knowledge of departments, names of persons, etc. Records and signs for packages; completes searches to determine proper receiving office and forwards or returns to sender in accordance with own judgment and/or predetermined instructions. Attention to detail and understanding of Staff Finder/Global systems. Responsibilities are completed with oversight until required knowledge of University is developed, generally after a 1 year in the role.Sets up all pulls/runs of outgoing mail for USPS and outside couriers. Distributes incoming and outgoing mail for all off site areas.Responsible for USPS services at the retail window, including sales of stamps and post cards, processing of Priority and Certified mail, Signature confirmation, media mail, International Mail, and Extra International Services. Completes mandatory USPS training. Reads postage meter machine charges, makes tape of daily charges on meter and accounts for receipts and disbursements. Prepares audit reports and accountability for cash and stamps. Completes responsibilities with oversight until required knowledge of postal procedures is developed, generally after 1 year in the role.Advises patrons about applicable postal regulations such as classes of mail, foreign mailings, insuring mail and assists them in complying with the regulations. May schedule special mail pickups or deliveries. Keeps area clean.Accepts, sign for, forwards and keeps a record of special mail such as registered, certified, express and insured mail. Obtains signatures on and makes contact concerning mail when necessary.Other duties which include: departmental cleaning of work area, restocking of intramural items and postal supplies, Ordering of postal supplies, Maintenance checks of internal equipment and call schedule.
