NATURE AND SCOPE:

The Center Director is responsible and accountable for implementing all aspects of the day-to-day center operations in compliance with Head Start performance standards. This includes facility, personnel, procurement, record keeping and reporting, and parent activities. The Center Director is the direct liaison to the Operation Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

  • Ensure that all aspects of the Head Start program are implemented at the center level.
  • Monitor all service area activities and ensures compliance with Head Start and Bright from the Start Performance Standards.
  • Monitor classroom assignments and ensure weekly classroom observations are conducted.
  • Request technical assistance from staff or providers to ensure that appropriate services are delivered.
  • Review monthly budget reports with supervisor.
  • Ensure all staff are properly supervised.
  • Monitor and evaluate the job performance of center staff, provide counseling, and assist in correcting deficiencies.
  • Maintain attendance records, approve time sheets and leave and travel requests for center employees.
  • Participate in the interview process and/or makes recommendations for new or transferred employees.
  • Arrange for center coverage when regular staff are absent from the center.
  • Assist with new employee orientation to the operations of the center and job expectations of the position held along with Human Resources.
  • Plan and conduct regularly scheduled staff meetings.
  • Maintain records of agendas, minutes of meetings, and sign-in sheets.
  • Assist with the recruitment and assignment of training center volunteers and maintain appropriate records.
  • Attend parent center committee meetings and activities.
  • Assess and document training needs for staff.
  • Monitor maintenance worker’s daily assignments based on center needs.
  • Complete and submit accurate volunteer reports to appropriate specialist and maintain record keeping and reporting of volunteer reports to Content Area Specialist.
  • Provide information to parents regarding educational services and other program activities.
  • Recruit and recommend staff and parent/volunteers to serve on advisory and training committees.
  • Recommend staff and parents/volunteers for special recognition and maintains a record of accomplishments to support recommendations.
  • Inspect the building(s) and grounds to ensure cleanliness and absence of hazardous materials/conditions, and to identify needed repairs.
  • Prepare written reports, complete required checklists, and submit them to appropriate staff.
  • Schedule monthly fire and tornado drills.
  • Inspect fire extinguishers and smoke detectors.
  • Maintain necessary supplies to carry out daily operations.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment in compliance with fiscal regulations, in conjunction with designated fiscal staff person.
  • Ensure all required documentation and records (CACFP, ADA, purchase orders attendance with CACFP forms, etc.) are maintained and/or forwarded to the appropriate Central office personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
  • 3+ years Management and Supervisory experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in child education environment.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Must have strong leadership ability.
  • Must possess the ability to respond to emergency situations as well as respond to and mediate conflict resolution.
  • Must be able to network and serve as public relations liaison.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to accommodate evening meetings or training.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to perform physical requirements, including, but not limited to, kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry objects or children up to 50 lbs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 30-hour center-manager training.
