THE ROLE

Insomniac is seeking a DevOps Engineer with a robust foundation in cloud infrastructure, specifically AWS (EKS, RDS, S3), and a passion for automation and efficient operations. The ideal candidate excels in managing CI/CD pipelines, particularly with GitHub Actions, and is adept at deploying, managing, and optimizing containerized applications. Expertise in Linux/Unix, Cloudflare configurations, and tracing/observability tools like Honeycomb is crucial. Familiarity with quickly drafting scripts in any language such as Bash, Python, Ruby, or Go (with Go being ideal) to analyze system performance or health is highly valued.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Configure AWS & Cloudflare Services: Enhance web application performance and security by managing Cloudflare services and automating AWS infrastructure provisioning and scaling
  • Deploy, Manage, and Optimize Containerized Applications: Expertly use Amazon EKS, focusing on high scalability and reliability
  • Improve Engineering Standards, Tooling, and Processes: Collaborate closely with product, design, software engineering and marketing teams, including internal & offshore team(s), to enhance engineering practices
  • Improve Manage CI/CD Pipelines: Utilize GitHub Actions & implement integrations to ensure seamless automated code improvement & deployment processes across development and production environments
  • Support Debugging with Advanced Tools: Use tracing/observability tools, particularly Honeycomb and AWS CloudWatch, for debugging production issues and fixing complex problems across different services and stack levels
  • Apply Security and Compliance Best Practices: Leverage AWS and Cloudflare tools to protect against threats across cloud and application layers
  • Optimize Cost and Performance: Improve global access and user experience by utilizing Cloudflare’s CDN and AWS services for performance and cost-efficiency
  • Help train and onboard other team members when needed
  • Other requirements and responsibilities as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or 4+ years of equivalent work experience in DevOps roles with cloud infrastructure
  • Demonstrated proficiency in backend development, particularly with Go & Node.js (TypeScript)
  • Experience deploying optimized Next.js applications in Dockerized production environments
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Docker & Kubernetes
  • Experienced with event-driven microservice architecture
  • Solid background in Linux/Unix administration, with the ability to quickly draft scripts in Bash, Python, Ruby, or ideally Go
  • Demonstrated proficiency with AWS (EC2, EKS, RDS, S3, OpsWorks, CloudWatch, ElastiCache), for deploying and managing applications
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Proficiency in managing CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions
  • Experience writing & managing automated test suites (unit tests, integration tests, browser / E2E)
  • Git workflow (branching, merging, tagging, cherry picking)
  • Ability to oversee existing REST & GraphQL APIs, their performance, error rates & security
  • Proven experience in e-commerce environments, with a strong background in integrating and managing APIs such as Stripe and Braintree
  • Working with team to determine SLOs (Service-level objectives)
  • Database design concepts and experience with PostgreSQL
  • Knowledge on monitoring, debugging, and performance analysis tools to fix complex issues across different services and levels of the stack (OpenTelemetry / Honeycomb.io, a debugger, other logging & observability tools)
  • In-depth knowledge of Cloudflare configurations for web security and performance
  • Strong understanding of DNS management, SSL certificate deployment, and email system configurations
  • Bonus points for experience in ticketing, travel, or hospitality industries

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to tolerate loud noise levels & busy environments
  • May work in drastic temperature climates
  • Must be willing to travel to work events during holidays, evening and weekend hours, as required, to meet deadlines

Hiring Salary Range: $112,000.00 - $140,000.00 USD
