What You’ll Be Doing
- Negotiating and drafting health system, hospital, and other client contracts within the Legal Department. Member of the Client Contracting team within the Legal Department. Assisting with and managing other contracting needs for the Company, as directed by VP, Client Contracting.
- Draft and negotiate client contracts, amendments, renewals, and correspondence relating to organization's business in a fast-paced environment. Understand the business and clinical operations and financial obligations of the respective parties to the client contracts and advise field operations appropriately.
- Assist in gathering data on client contracts for record keeping, forecasting and valuation.
- Assist in client contracting teams’ efforts in developing client contracting guidelines and templates.
- Coordinate with others within the department as to established client contracting guidelines.
- Work closely with clinical provider contracting team to ensure continuity of obligations across clients and corresponding clinical providers agreements.
- Attend all legal team and client contract team meetings.
- Organize, schedule, and host internal and external client contracting review/committee meetings, including, as requested, attendance at recurring calls with business development, innovation, other service line leadership and field operations.
- Develop and foster relationships with business development, innovation, other service lines, staffing operations, field operations and work in sync with clinician contracting team.
- Review client contracting for irregularities and trending, ensuring accuracy, objectivity and completeness.
- Request additional information for completion of client contract processing, including eligibility reviews.
- Participate in client contracting-related integration of data, processes and systems for any company mergers or acquisitions.
- Possess understanding of client contracting programs, policies, and procedures as to reporting, investigation, analysis, trending, forecasting and management - up to and through the resolution/outcome/final contracting.
- Identify and communicate, as appropriate, all outlying behaviors, adverse risk and adverse trending related to contracting, doing so through the use of appropriate analytical and statistical methods and reporting.
- Flag potential issues in client contracts for healthcare, compliance or regulatory issues and then work with Compliance Department in resolving any concerns. Assist with review of business associate agreements.
- Develop reports and analyze risk associated with client contracting, prepare analyses, identify exposures, recommend solutions, implement approved programs, and promote a proactive approach to mitigating loss prevention techniques/programs.
- Participate in client contracting-related functions in accordance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Seek to support and further the mission and vision of the Legal Department and the organization.
- Promote, develop, oversee, and encourage innovation in policies, procedures, products, operating plans and services.
- Contribute to the organization's strategic plan, initiatives, and imperatives.
- Interact courteously and professionally with all including, but not limited to, employees, customers, insureds, contractors, and third-party vendors.
- Work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in diverse communities.
- Manage a wide range of issues, legal and otherwise, common to the organization.
- Define and communicate performance expectations and measures to those supervised and to any supervisors.
- Promote the development, integration, and implementation of departmental objectives in support of corporate goals and in coordination with other departments.
- Develop, maintain, and foster productive relationships with external persons and entities such as internal and external counsel, facility representatives, providers, employees, etc.
- Perform in a manner that enhances the operations of the department and the organization and promotes quality patient care.
Who/What We Are Looking For
- Legal / Contracting Experience
- Bachelors Degree Required
- Licensed to practice law in one of U.S. States or District of Columbia.
- Juris Doctor Degree from ABA Accredited University Required
- At least three (3) years of legal & contracting experience.
- Experience within and/or knowledge of the healthcare industry preferred.
- Experience in contract negotiations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and superior attention to detail
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interact, work effectively and build strong relationships with employees at all levels and in all departments, whether virtual or in person.
- Strong interpersonal skills and customer focus, service, and team orientation.
