HOURS: Full-time up to 40 hours per week
Position Overview
The Communications Director is part of the Administrative Team. The main focus of this position is communications but it will also include assisting with other administrative work as needed. This position will assist with reception duties including answering the phone and greeting people who walk in.
The Communication Director is responsible for managing and executing all aspects of internal and external communications to support the church's mission and vision. This role involves developing communication strategies that resonate with both the congregation and the broader community, ensuring that the church’s message is clear, consistent, and Christ-centered. This position is a combination of marketing skills and visual design skills. This person will strive to have a servant’s heart for the church and those who walk through our doors.
This position will be reviewed annually by the Administrator and either the Sr. Pastor or Deacon.
Responsibilities
Strategic Communication Planning
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy that aligns with the church's mission and enhances engagement with the congregation and community.
- Identify key audiences within and outside the church, tailoring messages to effectively reach and engage each group.
- Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of communication strategies and adjust them as necessary.
Content Creation & Management
- Create, edit, and oversee all church communications, including weekly bulletins, newsletters, website content, and social media posts.
- Ensure all content reflects biblical values and the church's doctrinal positions.
- Collaborate with ministry leaders to produce promotional materials for church events, ministries, and outreach efforts.
- Create and finalize design and layout of advertisements, flyers, slides, etc.
- Maintain electronic files and archives of all designs.
- Act church historian archiving church photos and information about special events
Local Media Relations
- Act as the church's primary media contact, managing relationships with local media outlets.
Digital Communications and Social Media
- Oversee the church's social media presence, ensuring that all content is engaging, appropriate, and aligned with the church's mission.
- Manage the church website, keeping it up-to-date with relevant information and resources for members and visitors.
- Use digital tools to enhance online engagement, such as email campaigns, podcasts, and live streaming services.
- Create and maintain content in coordination with the preaching pastor, including uploading sermons to YouTube.
Internal Communicaitons
- Facilitate effective communication among church staff, leadership, and the congregation.
- Ensure that all members are informed of upcoming events, important announcements, and church initiatives.
- Support ministry leaders in their communication needs, providing templates, tools, and guidance as needed.
- Take ultimate responsibility for all pieces of church content including print and digital. Approve all flyers, brochures, and communications created by volunteers.
Brand and Message Consistency
- Maintain consistency in the church's messaging and branding across all platforms and materials.
- Ensure that all communications reflect the church's core values and theological beliefs.
- Recruit and train volunteers to assist with communications tasks, such as social media management, photography, and video production.
- Coordinate volunteer efforts to ensure timely and high-quality production of communication materials.
- Collaborate with ministry leaders and Campuses to produce promotional materials for church events, ministries, and outreach efforts.
Requirements
- A strong personal faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to the mission and values of McCook E-Free Church.
- Experience in communications, public relations, graphic design, or marketing, preferably within a church or nonprofit setting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate biblical truths effectively.
- Proficiency in digital communication platforms, including social media, website management, and email marketing tools.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- A heart for ministry and a desire to see the church grow in its impact on the community.
- Excellent communicator (both written and verbal) and creative thinker with the ability to use data to inform strategy.
- Creative, yet organized and administrative enough to manage oneself independently.
- Flexible and able to adjust to ever-changing situations. Able to balance working in structured processes and timelines with empathetic people skills so relationships are grown and everyone wins.
- Able to understand the voice and culture of the overall church and then create reflecting such.
- Lifelong learner who is excited to learn and keep up with the current trends and strategies of communications.
- Confident utilizing technology and software such as Adobe products, Canva, Facebook, and website design, etc.
- Experience in video production and editing.
- A track record of completing creative projects with excellence and punctuality.
- Must agree to our Statement of Faith.
Preferred
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience OR an Associate’s degree in communications, marketing, or graphic design.
- Familiarity with church management software and tools (e.g., Planning Center, Breeze, Tithe.ly)
- Be a regular attender of our church.
Accountability
This person reports directly to the Administrator and is reviewed annually by the Administrator, and two of the following: Senior Pastor and/or Deacon. In the Administrator’s absence, they report to the Senior Pastor.
