SECTION CHIEF

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the technical oversight of their section, and the direct supervision of laboratory personnel in their section. Responsible for the development and maintenance of policies, procedures, and quality assurance practices within their respective sections.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

• Education and/or experience: Education, training and certification required for laboratory licensure by the State of Tennessee is required.
• Knowledge: Thorough technical knowledge of their section; must have the scientific and mathematical knowledge required to interpret laboratory findings. Thorough knowledge of State, Federal and voluntary accreditation agencies’ regulatory requirements for their section.
• Skills: Computer skills sufficient to operate multiple operational systems and sufficient mechanical skills to operate, troubleshoot, and repair laboratory instruments and/or follow directions to troubleshoot and/or repair laboratory instruments. Supervisory and leadership skills necessary to plan, implement, manage, and document the functions of a team performing a complex set of processes. Must be able to takeover a laboratory process/procedure begun by another. Good verbal and written communication skills; must have good problem solving skills.
• Abilities: Must have the ability to function as a team leader; provide leadership in an acceptable manner to subordinate personnel. Must be able to multitask and prioritize multiple demands; must be able to respond professionally in emergency situations.

Schedule: Full Time (0.75 - 1.0), Days, 6am - 2:30pm
