Position Summary

APCO Holdings is looking for a Director, HR Operations who will establish a strong business partner function to support the growth and scale of the organization. We are seeking a business person who knows HR, not the other way around. In this role, you will drive significant business growth and make an immediate impact through your expertise in complex problem solving, talent management, leadership coaching, and people planning all while keeping our Core Values top of mind when developing a best-in-class employee experience through forward-looking and innovative initiatives.

The Director will own and manage the relationship between the functional business leaders and the HR team. This role will act as a strategic thought leader and partner to the business and will be pivotal in planning and managing the strategic direction of HR strategy and support in order to execute overall business objectives. You will influence change, lead HR initiatives and partner cross-functionally with a variety of stakeholders to work to help business partners build high-performing and engaged teams across the organization.

The Director should have strong strategic and tactical expertise, and is relied on for counsel, leadership, execution, innovation, and results that advance organizational goals. In addition, this leadership role serves as a business partner who is collaborative and capable of building consensus and commitment towards shared outcomes. The skill to operate in a fast-paced environment with a professional demeanor is pivotal. Having the ability to prioritize assignments and quickly pivot within a complex work environment is essential to success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage relationships with leaders throughout APCO to ensure an in-depth understanding of business objectives, goals, and organizational challenges; “live in the business” and be able to translate business strategy into HR deliverables as needed.
  • Act as strategic partner between the business and HR team, translating business objectives into actionable & effective HR strategy & programs.
  • Partner with leadership to understand short and long-term business goals and build a People and Talent strategy that aligns and supports these priorities in order to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement within all areas of the business.
  • Lead various initiatives to support the business transformation such as organizational design, staffing strategy, leadership development/support, & change management.
  • Provide strategic and tactical employee relations consultation and resolution to managers and employees including coaching, counseling, retention, and adherence to company and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Serve as point of contact and thought partner to Managers and Executive Leadership team on employment changes such as compensation changes and promotion requests, assist leaders with job description creation and make compensation recommendations aligned with market data and company policies and practices.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law and apply this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to senior leadership.
  • Create employee performance assessment processes.

Education/Qualifications/Skills & Abilities:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field. SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ management experience, with progressively increasing responsibilities.
  • Experience working with a distributed outside sales teams.
  • Ability to identify, influence, and collaborate through trust and relationship building with key stakeholders to achieve desired organizational outcomes.
  • A natural problem solver with the ability and desire to flex from big picture strategic thinking to hands-on execution.
  • Ability to see beyond traditional or classic HR when facing new challenges.
  • Collaborative team player with demonstrated professional and emotional maturity and judgment to handle sensitive situations with integrity, diplomacy, tact and high ethical standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (both written and verbal) skills combined with strong presentation and organizational abilities.
  • Strong competency within the People function: org design, coaching, recognition programs, talent management, communications, and change management.
  • Demonstrated strong project management skills with solid ability to manage complex requirements in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong background in creating and executing HR strategy, talent planning, organizational design, employee relations, and performance management.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and HRIS systems.
  • Experience in a multi-state environment.
  • Travel up to 15%.
