BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY: Administer the child care center’s daily operation in compliance with the minimum standards to ensure that children are provided a healthy and safe environment, given the opportunity to develop stable and caring relationships, and provided an environment that fosters cognitive, social, and emotional growth; submit information/forms to Texas Department of Family and Protective Services within required timelines; assign and supervise staff.

Instructional Management:
– Define and enforce policies of admission, attendance, tuition, and educational goals. Establish procedures for management of children’s routines, field trips, and educational program. Evaluate each child in relation to school progress, abilities, and special needs. Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate program for all students enrolled in the child care center.
– Support the implementation, monitoring and/or evaluation of assigned programs for instructional support and ensure that assigned programs are efficiently and effectively administered.
– Support and participate in meeting the objectives of the campus/department improvement plans.
Student Management:
– Assist in resolving parent/student issues and concerns in a timely manner.
– Assist in managing student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Management of Administrative, Fiscal and/or Facilities Functions:
– Ensure that all staff know and understand minimum standards; ensure that staff designated to be in charge when director is absent from the facility is given authority and is competent to administer the facility in compliance with minimum standards; schedule staff for no more than ten hours of direct child care.
– Prepare annual program budget based upon documented program needs, estimated enrollment, personnel and other fiscal needs; operate within budgetary limits; accurately report fiscal information.
– Analyze facilities, equipment and material needs for optimum teaching and learning.
– Plan and administer a parent participation program that includes orientation, parent education, two-way communication, and a parents’ library.
– Coordinate departmental activities with other District offices and administrators and provide assistance to requesting departments.
– Follow District and department policies and procedures.
Human Resources Management:
– Provide direction and guidance to assigned staff.
– Provide input on performance of assigned staff.
– Recognize exemplary performance of assigned staff.
Organization Improvement:
– Analyze critical needs in assigned areas and work collaboratively to implement and improve programs.
Professional Growth and Development:
– Participate in professional development that increases effectiveness and improves District performance.
School/Community Relations:
– Interface with governmental agencies, business and civic organizations, and the community to provide needed information and to promote the District’s initiatives.
Organization Morale:
– Foster positive morale by participating in team building activities and the decision-making process.
– Communicate and collaborate with campus/department staff to enhance service delivery, program development, and customer satisfaction.
Other Responsibilities:
– Comply with policies established by federal and state law, including but not limited to State Board of Education and local Board policy.
– Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
– Knowledge of designated campus child care center policies/procedures.
– Knowledge of early childhood and child development.
– Knowledge of acceptable human resource/supervisory practices and principles.
– Knowledge of techniques used in assisting special needs students.
– Skill in coping with a variety of children in stressful situations.
– Skill in directing the work of others.
– Skill in communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing.
– Skill in operating standard computer and software applications, including but not limited to electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations.
– Ability to solve complex problems and build consensus.
– Ability to develop and implement long-range plans.
– Ability to prioritize and organize work responsibilities and delegate appropriate departmental tasks effectively.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, day care administrator’s license, and two years of related experience, including one year in a supervisor capacity, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS:
– Maintain emotional control under stress.
– Work with frequent interruptions.
– Walk, stand, stoop, bend and lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
– Work extended and irregular hours.
– Sit for extended periods of time.
– Use computer for prolonged period resulting in repetitive hand motions.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
– Work is primarily indoors in a climate-controlled building.
– Work involves occasional exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
– Work involves constant interpersonal interactions within an educational environment.
