Position Summary:
The CU System Office of Advancement provides excellent customer service, strategy, expertise, and efficiency to our partners on CU’s campuses, Central Advancement, and at the University of Colorado Foundation. We support CU’s fundraising and engagement goals through advancement operations that include constituent research and development, data management, business intelligence, technical architecture, annual giving, planned giving, gift administration, marketing and communications, IT, budget and finance, and more. The Executive Director of Advancement Data & Technology will provide guidance and data-driven leadership to support the continued evolution of Salesforce, Business Intelligence tools, and related systems across the CU Advancement community. The Executive Director will lead the strategic direction for the Salesforce platform, business intelligence tools, and other Advancement technologies and provide ownership for continued projects that are driven to improve these platforms and the related experience for end users. The Executive Director will lead CU Advancement’s Center of Excellence, which will act as a central governing body responsible for setting standards and priorities for data, reporting and technology projects, use cases, or feature improvements. The candidate will be a domain expert on CRM and business intelligence solutions, providing suggestions on new technology capabilities to meet customer needs. This Executive Director will hold responsibility for streamlining the Advancement user experience through effective CRM and reporting strategies, driving organizational change, evaluating current strategies and partnerships, supervising security and compliance, and ensuring that technology aligns with Advancement goals.
This position reports to the Sr Assistant Vice President of Central Advancement and is exempt from the State of Colorado Classified Staff system.
Where You Will Work:
The CU System Office of Advancement follows a “flexibility first” approach to work that defines how we manage and make use of in-person time. As a fully remote position, this role will work remotely with the exception of four separate callback weeks per year— when all our colleagues are expected to be together in the office. During callback weeks, this role is expected to work from the CU System office at 1800 Grant St. in Denver, Colorado. Any additional in-office time will be determined by this role's manager.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Advancement Technology Leadership
- Develop cohesive long-term vision and roadmap for how CRM, technical architecture, business intelligence tools, and associated advancement technologies can enable prioritized business needs.
- Serve as CRM product owner and be responsible for decisions related to front and back-end architecture, development, and release management strategies, and change management. Ensures all development work such as design implementation, whether handled internally or by service provider, follows established standards, processes, application guidelines and technical architecture (for the Salesforce and in compliance with the University Technology protocols).
- Provide technical leadership, setting standard processes including integration and application development, deployment, testing (unit and systems), and iterative refinement. Supervise the management of data feeds and other integrations while considering the existing environment, the overall university business and technical environments, campus IT architecture.
- Supervise the integration of data with Salesforce with other Advancement tools and systems.
- Run and empower a team of data analysts, IT professionals, and Salesforce administrators and developers to complete technical projects that align with CU Advancement’s strategic vision and roadmap.
- Supervise training and professional development programs and materials to educate technical staff on CRM standard methodologies and ensuring effective use of CRM.
- In partnership with the Advancement leaders, develops and refines the evolving strategic vision, action plan, and fiscal oversight required to successfully deploy Salesforce, reporting, and other IT solutions.
- Update, improve, and maintain CRM and business intelligence products in line with the roadmap, including management of CU’s vendor relationships and coordination with internal technology, data, and digital teammates.
- Develop and supervise key performance indicators to assess the effectiveness of strategies and initiatives.
- Act as representing party for CRM, Business Intelligence, Technical Architecture and IT to the executive committee and guide the technical teams within the Center of Excellence. Delivers project proposals to executive leadership and ensures execution of projects upon approval. Delivers technology-related internal partner communications.
- Actively contribute to the results of a team and work towards achieving team goals and objectives.
- Ensure utilization of CRM and reporting standard processes, optimization, and service delivery of CRM, reports, and associated technologies; stay ahead of the latest tools, trends, and techniques.
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with the Salesforce managed package provider to understand their roadmap and advocate for CU’s needs.
Data Acquisition, Security, Privacy & Compliance
- Create and drive strategy for data acquisition, identifying data sources that can be used for Advancement related purposes and approaches to integrating systems and data.
- Partner closely with the Office of Information Security to apply university-wide and standard process privacy management practices to Advancement’s CRM and IT infrastructure.
- Implement and uphold standard processes for data security and compliance with relevant regulations.
- Ensure development and application of Advancement specific security policies.
- Build and implement upon privacy standards for CU Advancement.
- Drive compliance with legal/regulatory requirements and procurement/contract review.
- Uphold CASE Global Reporting Standards for use of data and CASE-related reporting.
- Coordinate work with other CU data governance efforts.
Coordination on System-Wide Strategic Leadership
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with cross divisional key partners to drive integration of CRM and Business Intelligence programs throughout all of CU Advancement.
- Serve as a liaison to the Chief Information Officers on all four campuses and system administration to find opportunities for alignment, efficiencies, and economies of scale.
- Work in close partnership with the CIO for system administration and University Information Systems to align centrally supported technology to CU’s priorities.
- Work with teams, campus colleges, schools, and departments to lead design, document, and present options and to implement solutions; collaborate with end users, partners, and technical training staff to support solution adoption.
- Foster a culture of data-driven decision making within CU Advancement.
- Proactively stay abreast of emerging trends in Advancement technology and data analytics.
Supervision Expectations
- The Executive Director will supervise up to four direct reports responsible for Business Intelligence, Technical Architecture, CRM, IT and Security.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Software Engineering, Computer Science or related field. (professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis)
- Seven (7) years of experience with Salesforce administration, data management, and enterprise management system(s).
- Five (5) years of managerial, supervisory, and/or demonstrated leadership experience.
- Experience with the following:
- Data structures and data modeling
- Data warehousing
- Agile project management
- Solid understanding of Salesforce Sales Cloud, Marketing Cloud, Tableau and other CRM and Business intelligence technology solutions, such as Cognos.
- Solid understanding of relational databases in an Oracle client/server environment, query language, and development competency.
- Salesforce certifications including Advance Administrator and Platform Developer
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or post-baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. MBA or Master’s preferred.
- Ten (10) years of experience with Salesforce administration, data management, and enterprise management system(s); Higher-Ed Salesforce experience preferred.
- Seven (7) years of managerial, supervisory, and/or demonstrated leadership experience.
- Experience with the following:
- Similar work in a higher-education, healthcare, non-profit, and/or advancement setting
- Fundraising-related technology and vendor management
- Cognos
- Knowledge of distributed system architecture, middleware, or object-oriented analysis and design.
- Knowledge of Advancement and Salesforce Ascend product.
- Salesforce certifications such as Salescloud Consultant; CQP Specialist: Service Cloud Consultant; Field Service Lightening Consultant; Experience Cloud Consultant; Tableau CRM and Einstein Discovery Consultant; Education Cloud Consultant; OmniStudio Consultant
