Position Description: The Department of Philosophy at Harvard University seeks to appoint a tenure-track professor in Ancient Greek and Roman Philosophy. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels and will be expected to participate fully in the activities of the Department of Philosophy and to collaborate with relevant colleagues in the Classics Department. This search is being run concurrently with a separate tenure-track search in Ancient Philosophy in the Department of the Classics and is part of an initiative to revitalize ancient philosophy at Harvard. Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply to both positions. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2025.
Tenure-track appointments in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard are untenured.
Basic Qualifications: Doctorate in Philosophy or Classics (with a specialization in philosophy) required by the time the appointment begins. Candidates must have advanced competence in ancient Greek or Latin.
Additional Qualifications: Demonstrated strong commitment to teaching and advising is desired.

6. Writing sample (maximum 30 pages)
7. Names and contact information of 3 referees, who will be asked by a system-generated email to upload a letter of recommendation once the application has been submitted. The deadline for receipt of letters of recommendation is midnight on November 4, 2024. The application is considered complete only when three letters have been received; it is the responsibility of candidates to alert their referees and to notify them of this deadline.
8. Optional: candidates may submit one additional sample of scholarship (maximum 30 pages).
