The Emergency Shelter Support Advocate - Front Desk will help to move toward our vision of thriving survivors in safe communities.
The Center for Women and Families provides free services to people of all identities who have experienced intimate partner violence and sexual assault. We help our clients and their dependent children become survivors through trauma-informed advocacy. Our goal is to mitigate the impact of trauma by reducing their risk factors and building their resiliency. We serve anyone in Jefferson, Bullitt, Spencer, Shelby, Oldham, Henry and Trimble counties in Kentucky and Floyd and Clark counties in Indiana.
The Emergency Shelter Support Advocate - Front Desk is responsible for supporting the essential daily living needs of individuals experiencing homelessness due to intimate partner violence and/or sexual assault in a 24/7 emergency shelter. They actively assess the needs of the shelter community, ensuring client, staff, and building safety with minimal direct supervision. They are empathetic, client-centered, collaborative, and professional with the individuals we serve.
Pay rate based on employment type (FT/PT/PRN). Schedules based on departmental needs.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, counseling, de-escalation, transportation, advocacy, information, referrals and supportive services to aid clients in identifying immediate needs and determining viable next steps.
  • Conduct intakes, exits, agreements, and conflict resolution.
  • Support shift lead, groups, walk-in clients, child enrichment, pet needs, and shelter space readiness.
  • Assist with client desk and walk-in appointments.
  • Maintain daily written, verbal and electronic communication.
  • Collaborate with program staff on clients entering emergency shelter.
  • Coordinate with community partners (i.e., law enforcement, CPS, JCPS, VOA, The Coalition for the Homeless) to promote positive relationships. Communicate any challenges to the director for follow-up.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a driving record that meets CWF automobile insurance requirements.
  • Fluency in languages other than English are a plus!
  • Developed sense of empathy.
