MITRE’s National Security Accelerator Program is seeking highly motivated, late-early and early-mid career candidates passionate about solving problems for a safer world. This program will provide unique work opportunities, onboarding, and mentoring to build your skills as a future leader. You will interact with a diverse group of program peers, MITRE national security leaders, and staff solving real-world problems. Over the course of this structured six-month program, you will hone your skills and develop strong professional networks in the national security sector and across our Innovation Centers, helping solve critical national challenges. Before transitioning to MITRE’s permanent national security staff, you will benefit from the following program pillars:

  • An intensive, experiential onboarding program
  • Focused mentoring with MITRE national security leaders and experts in your field
  • Opportunity to support at least two different national security work programs

Roles & Responsibilities:

As a member of MITRE's Cybersecurity team, you will collaborate with mission specialists and engineers to support our national security sponsors in addressing the complex challenges of cybersecurity. Your role will involve designing, developing, and implementing innovative solutions and technologies to enhance the security posture of our government sponsors. You will gain insights into MITRE sponsor missions and apply your technical expertise to drive problem-solving and innovation. At the culmination of the program, you will become part of MITRE’s National Security team focused on sponsor missions with a strong technical background enabling you to be a future leader in the company.

From countering cyber threats to ensuring the resilience of critical systems, you will leverage your cybersecurity knowledge, creative thinking, and technical skills to tackle a diverse range of challenges crucial to our sponsor's mission success. Your role will encompass:

  • Cyber Threat Analysis and Mitigation
  • Cyber Exercise and Wargame Planning
  • Development and Implementation of Zero Trust Security Architecture
  • Cryptographic Algorithm Development and Assessment
  • Secure Software Development and DevSecOps Practices
  • Network Security and Intrusion Detection Systems
  • Security Information and Event Management (SIEM)
  • Incident Response and Recovery
  • Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing
  • Secure Cloud Computing and Containerization
  • Security Automation and Orchestration
  • Collaboration with Government Agencies and Industry Partners
  • Compliance with Government Security Standards and Policies
  • Research and Development of Emerging Cybersecurity Technologies

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, or related discipline. Minimum of 5 years of related experience, or Master's degree with 3 years of experience, or PhD with relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with government security standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in technical areas relevant to the specific role, such as cryptography, reverse engineering, system security engineering, and cyber threat analysis.
  • Knowledge of relevant tools and technologies, including but not limited to, MITRE ATT&CK, reverse engineering and debugging tools, assembly languages, cybersecurity intelligence products/tools, and defensive cyber operations.
  • Experience engaging with senior government leaders and stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors and 8 years of experience in cyber engineering principles, tools, and systems, with a focus on defense or national security applications or Master’s and 6 years of experience
  • Proven track record of working on projects related to defense, homeland security, or aerospace for one or more government agencies.
  • Demonstrated interdisciplinary background, showcasing continual learning and adaptation to new technologies and concepts.
  • Advanced expertise in cyber engineering, including but not limited to:
    • Advanced cyber threat analysis and mitigation strategies.
    • Deep understanding and application of cryptographic algorithms and protocols.
    • Proficiency in reverse engineering and debugging techniques, utilizing tools like Ghidra and IDA Pro.
    • Experience in developing and implementing Zero Trust security architectures.
    • Strong knowledge of defensive cyber operations and security automation.
    • Familiarity with cyber exercise and wargame planning, including scenario development.
    • Expertise in secure software development practices and DevSecOps methodologies.
    • Proficiency in network security, intrusion detection systems, and security information event management (SIEM) tools.
    • Experience in vulnerability assessment and penetration testing.
    • Understanding of cloud computing security principles and containerization technologies.
    • Knowledge of emerging cybersecurity technologies and trends, including artificial intelligence and machine learning applications.
    • Advanced proficiency in relevant programming languages such as Python, C, C++, and experience with CUDA for GPU programming.
    • Strong analytical and modeling skills, with the ability to apply digital engineering principles to cybersecurity solutions.
    • Experience collaborating with external partners and industry experts on cybersecurity research and development initiatives.
