Greater Mankato Diversity Council Education Director Job Description (Half-time)

The Education Director oversees all youth-related programs, including Promoting Respect Workshop (PRW) and the STEM equity program. As a GMDC team member, the Education Director actively engages in all aspects of GMDC administration, philosophy, schedule, and improvement. The Education Director reports to the Executive Director.

Promoting Respect Workshop (PRW)

PRW is one of GMDC’s flagship programs. Our facilitators visit K-12 classrooms in this program and conduct grade-specific Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion workshops. The Education Director’s duties include but are not limited to:

  1. Create/update/maintain PRW curricula for K-12.
  2. Scheduling PRWs, involving scheduling software and communication with schools and facilitators.
  3. Facilitator management, including recruiting, training, and reporting facilitator hours.
  4. Create and present annual reports to the school district, board members, etc.

STEM Equity Program

This program aims to eliminate the gender gap in STEM professionals. Facilitators visit 7th-10th grade classrooms and present various aspects of the STEM field with hands-on experiences. The Education Director’s duties include but are not limited to:

  1. Communication with South Central Schools Cooperative (Fiscal agent).
  2. Contact schools interested in this program.
  3. Recruit and train facilitators for STEM equity presentations.
  4. Update the STEM curriculum.

Other Responsibilities

  • Create, participate in, and organize youth DEI events and programs (such as Reading Festival).

Qualifications

  • Must understand GMDC’s mission and be committed to it.
  • Must be a trained PRW facilitator (or willing to be trained).
  • Computer skills – internet, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Drive, etc.
  • Must have a means of transportation to visit schools as required.
  • A college degree is preferred but not required.
  • Any DEI-related certificate or teaching experience is welcome.

Education

  • BS/master’s degree in education, Educational Leadership, or a related field (preferred but not required).
  • Any DEI-related certificate or teaching experience is welcome.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in educational leadership or management.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful educational programs.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and commitment to equity and inclusion.

Skills

  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and innovatively in program development.
  • Knowledge of current educational trends and best practices.
  • Being bilingual is a bonus.

Working Arrangements

  • The half-time hourly rate is negotiable depending on qualifications and experience.
  • Office space will be assigned to the Education Director.
  • 20 hours per week in the office (including trips to schools or PRW-related meetings).
  • Set office hours are a must.
