Director of Health & Safety Responsibilities

Strategy

  1. Develops and implements a comprehensive safety program that aligns with the company’s objectives and regulatory requirements
  2. Promotes and improves behavior-based safety initiatives
  3. Oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of our company Health and Safety Plan (HASP), ensuring it fully addresses the diverse range of tasks and work environments encountered by our employees
  4. Conducts Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and develops site-specific and client compliant HASPs (when required) for our employees working at client facilities
  5. Reports to senior leadership, board of directors, and key stakeholders on safety performance, compliance, and areas for improvement

Leadership

  1. Champions and serves as subject matter expert for corporate Health & Safety; mentors managers and staff; cultivates “health and safety first” mindset and reinforces safety compliance
  2. Develops and/or implements safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and company goals
  3. Oversees safety training programs for the company; partners with other leaders to ensure adherence to standards and requirements
  4. Monitors and analyzes safety performance data to identify trends and areas for improvement
  5. Manages our membership in contractor safety management programs such as ISNetworld and NCMS
  6. Works closely with operations, human resources, and executives to ensure safety is integrated into all business functions

Hands-on Execution

  1. Visits project sites, develops and trains employees on work-specific safety protocols, and monitors for compliance
  2. Manages safety incidents and conducts investigations; ensures accurate reporting, root cause analysis, and implementation of preventative measures
  3. Leads safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and risks
  4. Interfaces with federal, state, and local regulators for safety-related audits and reviews
  5. Ensures compliance with OSHA and other regulatory reporting

Director of Health & Safety Qualifications

Required

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Safety, or related field
  2. Overall 10+ years relevant Health & Safety experience as primary role
  3. 5+ years managing/leading Health & Safety programs for work in Oil & Gas
  4. 5+ years developing and implementing H&S programs including confined space entry, lockout/tagout, personal protective equipment (PPE), fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, hazard communication (HAZCOM), emergency action and fire prevention, heat stress prevention, and others
  5. 5+ years developing and delivering safety training
  6. 3+ years hands-on experience with contractor management platforms such as ISNetworld and ICMS
  7. Strong working knowledge of Federal OSHA regulations
  8. Current Texas residency
  9. Ability to travel 25-50% of the time (within the US), sometimes on short notice
  10. Ability to don PPE as required, including respirator
  11. Valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record
  12. Ability to pass background screening

Preferred

  1. Active Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification or similar
