Position Description
HGL is searching for a qualified tax accountant to prepare and process all tax payments and returns for our organization. This role requires prior accounting experience, along with great knowledge of current law, regulations, and tax requirements. The successful candidate will have a keen attention to detail, be highly organized, and know a significant deal about tax management. They should also know how to recommend the best tax processes that strictly adhere to all legal requirements while simultaneously promoting our company’s financial prosperity.After a ramp-up period of 2 months in the Reston, VA office, a work from home schedule will be available .
Responsibilities/Duties
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Assist external accounting firm with preparation of federal, state and local corporate income tax returns in compliance with applicable tax laws.
- Preparation of local sales/use tax, BPOL, property tax returns, gross receipts tax, excise tax, etc.
- Maintain tax compliance workbooks that support tax reporting
- Assist external accounting firm in preparation of quarterly and annual income tax provisions, including reconciliation and roll-forward of deferred tax accounts.
- Support tax workflows to include the annual budget, annual audit, forecasting, Forward Pricing Rate Proposals.
- Identify and implement tax department automation and technology initiatives.
- Assist with improvements to tax department processes and other special projects.
- Identify tax savings opportunities
- Provide guidance on taxability of transactions related to government contract proposals.
- Primary point of contact for all tax audits and tax authorities
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting or economics, and 6 years of relevant experience; Master’s degree/CPA and 4 years of relevant professional experience.

WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT – Preferred, not required
- Experience preparing complex consolidated and combined income tax returns for mid-size corporations.
- Public accounting tax experience and/or accounting at a defense contractor or agency
- Experience with taxation of both domestic and US territories
- Experience with Excel data analysis
- Experience with tax research services
- Knowledge of the provisions and application of ASC 740, Income Tax Accounting
- High level of written and oral communication skills
