JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the management of the SBE’s overall operational, financial, strategic, human resources, public relations, and other management activities. The Executive Director supports SBE programs, services, expansion, and the execution of its mission in collaboration with the Board of Directors.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides general management of the SBE including services, financial resources, personnel, facilities, and its compliance with the board policies as well as local, state, and federal laws.
  2. Planning and execution of the meetings of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and other supporting committees within the association.
  3. Providing reports of association activity as needed.
  4. Along with the SBE President, represent the association at conferences, trade shows, and is the primary point of contact for the association for collaborative agencies.
  5. Establishes association’s employee organization structure. Directs and manages SBE staff including hiring, training, evaluation, compensation, and termination.
  6. Works with the SBE General Counsel and Government Relations Committee Chair to promote SBE’s advocacy program, including regulatory and legislative efforts, and to build industry and governmental alliances.
  7. Provides support to the SBE membership, chapters, and national SBE committees.
  8. Negotiates, executes, and administers contracts as authorized by the Board.
  9. Manages SBE finances, including the preparation of financial reports and annual budget.
  10. Manages employee payroll processing and records.
  11. Manages the national office facility including the office lease and related services.
  12. Serves as Treasurer of the Ennes Educational Foundation Trust, the SBE’s charitable entity.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. 5 years of management experience with a proven ability to coach, manage, and develop diverse and high-performing teams.
  3. Skilled at strategic planning and implementation of elements of plan.
  4. Strong oral, written, electronic, and interpersonal communication skills.
  5. Willingness to relocate to and reside in Indianapolis, Indiana.
  6. Ability to work effectively in collaboration with internal and external groups.
  7. Willingness to travel to represent the SBE at national and international events as needed.
  8. Experience in developing and implementing budgets and financial tools such as QuickBooks.
  9. Excellent time management skills, attention to detail, and ability to stay organized.
  10. Possess, or commit to obtaining, a Certified Association Executive (CAE) certification from the American Society of Association Executives.

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, or non-profit management.
  2. Experience as a general manager, CEO, executive director, or senior manager of a non-profit organization.
  3. Demonstrable track record of association membership growth.
  4. Marketing skills and the ability to promote the mission of the association to external stakeholders.
  5. Understanding of the broadcast television, radio, and digital media landscape.
