Property Accountant in Newton, MA

Are you an experienced Property Accountant seeking a dynamic role with a leading real estate management firm? Look no further! We are currently seeking a talented individual to join our team in Newton, MA. This hybrid position offers a blend of remote and in-office work, with a competitive compensation package ideally up to $85k, potentially stretching to $90k for exceptional candidates. Responsibilities

  1. Maintain GAAP accrual general ledgers for commercial properties, including office, retail, and garage space.
  2. Prepare and process monthly journal entries, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  3. Produce monthly financials according to established schedules and analyze results, communicating concerns to the Accounting Manager.
  4. Prepare and maintain monthly workpapers, including reconciling bank statements.
  5. Review income, expense, deferred leasing, and capital purchases for accurate coding and payment, resolving issues as needed.
  6. Support the budget and reprojection process through analysis and collaboration.
  7. Undertake special projects as needed and provide support to accounting and property management teams.
  8. Attend weekly staff meetings and participate in reporting and other meetings as required.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  2. Basic understanding of general ledger activity, preferably with experience using Yardi.
  3. Proficiency in Excel and other MS applications.
  4. 2-4 years of accounting experience, with at least two years in commercial real estate or public accounting with real estate clients.
  5. CPA certification is a plus.
  6. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, multitask effectively, and meet deadlines.
  7. Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative team-oriented approach.
  8. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders.
