Your Role

The Core Underwriting - Large Group team is responsible for managing a book of business with $1.2 Billion dollars in premium and fees, through risk evaluation, premium and fee setting for employer groups with 250 to 3,000 employees. The Group Underwriter - Large, Senior will report to the Director of Underwriting - Core Experience Rated. In this role you will work with actuarial pricing tools and apply them to customer specific utilization while balancing multiple strategies, market competitiveness, membership, and profitability goals. You will also need to have the skillset to change financial projections based on data driven information to allow expedient decision-making. In-depth knowledge of complex funding arrangements (fully insured, self-funded arrangement and specialty (dental, vision & life) is a must.

Your Work

In this role, you will:

  1. Apply appropriate actuarial factors and rating methods to determine potential exposure to BSC's products.
  2. Collect, review and assess customer specific data including financial condition, employee demographics and past claim experience to determine degree of risk, appropriate benefits and rates.
  3. Review requests for quotes, develop and review bid specifications, benefit plan design features and financial alternatives for complex, fully insured cases as well as alternative funding arrangements.
  4. Participate in discussions and negotiate with sales reps on new and renewal business. May be included in discussions with brokers, consultants and employers.
  5. Review and approve rates in sales requests and update UW financial and tracking databases.
  6. Requires an attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to see the "big picture" of the company's sales strategy.

Your Knowledge and Experience

  1. Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  2. Requires at least 5 years of prior relevant experience.
  3. In-depth knowledge of complex funding arrangements (fully insured, self-funded arrangement and specialty (dental, vision & life).
  4. Ability to perform as a team member and collaborate with other teams/depts.
  5. Superb negotiation and customer service skills.

Pay Range: The pay range for this role is $87,230.00 to $130,900.00 for California.
