COA Van Driver
The Town of Ashland is looking for a part time, 16 hours per week, Council on Aging (COA) Van Driver. This position will provide transportation for Ashland residents to medical appointments and Senior Center Activities.
Responsibilities will include:

  • Operating a 3 passenger van or small vehicle.
  • Driving Ashland Seniors (60 and older) throughout Ashland and contiguous towns to medical appointments, shopping, and personal errands.
  • Assisting passengers in and out of the van, particularly those with mobility impairments.
  • Assisting with scheduling appointments.
  • Responsible for monthly reporting to the Director.
  • Cleaning interior and exterior of van as required.

Requirements include: a High School Diploma, or equivalent is required. A Valid Massachusetts driver's license. Ability to complete a three-day training offered by the MWRTA (to be completed after hire). Candidates must have a clear driving record, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to establish and maintain effective work relations.
The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and communication; knowledge of the layout of the town of Ashland; knowledge of general upkeep of vehicles; knowledge of Massachusetts driving rules and regulations; possess basic technology skills including use of cell phone and tablet.
The work principally involves sitting, though frequently there can be stooping, walking and standing, particularly when helping customers. May be required to lift objects such as files, boxes of papers, weighing up to 30 pounds, and must have sufficient strength and ability to physically assist people into vehicles.
This is a non-benefited part-time year round position. The starting salary is $15.35-$17.35 per hour. Successful candidates will be subject to a pre-employment physical and drug screening. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
