About Our ED:
SWRMC is a Level 3 - 29 bed ED
in customer satisfaction for non free standing Sentara ED's and has been for several years!
STAFF Mix
Registered Nurses - good mix of RN experience and only hire new grads in spe-
cial circumstances.
ED Techs (EMT/Paramedics or in nursing school) - assist with starting IV's, EKG's, transporting patients, stocking the department, sitting 1:1 and filling in as the AA when needed.
Ratio of 3:1 and 4:1 depending on the acuity of the patients.
ED pharmacist in our ED for 8 hours, 7 days a week.
ED case manager here 5 days a week.
OUR STAFF:
We have 12 RN's who have worked here more than 10 years, 4 RN's have worked here more than 20 years and one RN who has worked here for 35 hours!
The ED manager has worked in this ED for 25 years- first as staff and now as the Leader
Job Requirements:
  • Required: RN-Associate's Degree, OR RN-Diploma (non-degree), OR RN-Bachelor's Level Degree, OR RN-Doctorate Level Degree, OR RN-Master's Level Degree
  • Registered Nurse License
  • PREFERRED- RECENT ED experience as RN
  • ACLS, BLS, NIHH - REQUIRED
  • TNCC - Preferred

Demonstrates proficiency in nursing practice for assigned specialty areas and provides clinical leadership for the delivery of nursing care in a department. Under the direction of the department, the manager leads safety and quality initiatives, focuses on and simplifies workflow, and contributes to the development of staff. Increase staff satisfaction and promotes excellent (Gold Standard) customer service.

Job Summary
The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
BSN or MSN preferred. New Hire Education Requirement: All new RNs who do not have their BSN will be required to sign a BSN Agreement committing to enrollment in an accredited RN to BSN program within 24 months of hire and successfully obtaining their BSN within 5 years of hire. Meets and maintains any requirements defined by specific specialty; Critical Care/IMCU ACLS within 1 year of hire; Emergency Care - ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year of hire; Oncology Care ONS/ONCC or Sentara approved course Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Provider Card within 6 months of hire. Women's Care - Perinatal departments; NRP within 6 months of hire. Inpatient Pediatrics. PALS within 6 months of hire. All Direct Care RN's required to have BLS within 90 days of hire.
