LHH is seeking a highly dynamic Welding Engineer to join our client’s team in the Harmony, PA. This position will report to the Director of Technical Services. The Welding Engineer will work to continue developing and improving our welding and inspection process to improve safety, quality, and efficiency. This employee will evaluate shop floor welding practices and welding equipment, integrate Lean manufacturing concepts and practices, and work to continually improve our welding outcomes. They will support production personnel in developing and documenting processes that provide the highest quality to our customers. The welding engineer also partners with design, Quality Assurance, and R&D to develop techniques, weld specs, and inspection methods as needed. This is a hands-on role with a presence on the production floor, as well as in the office, to help streamline projects from Engineering to Production.

Responsibilities:


  • Evaluate, develop, and qualify Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) for manual and automatic welding processes.
  • Facilitate testing with external, third-party labs.
  • Evaluate and develop non-destructive test processes and certification plans in compliance with appropriate standards and codes.
  • Collaborate with quality to maintain our welding procedure database.
  • Collect, organize, and present process/quality data from improvement.
  • Work with design engineering in welding geometry design, materials selection and failure analysis.
  • Collaborate with production leadership to select and commission welding equipment.
  • Partner with in-house welders to ensure continual welder development and welding performance meet specifications and timelines.
  • Assist with tooling and fixturing of welded components to minimize distortion during welding.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve welding discrepancies with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Provide welding engineering expertise to aid in developing annual and long-term business plans.
  • Increase welding efficiency using documented, standardized processes.
  • Develop concepts on capital projects. Prepares ROI’s and coordinates the investigation, selection, installation, testing, and training to successfully integrate projects into the business.
  • Make recommendations to standardize features, promote cost-effective zero-defect manufacturing, and improve functionality that supports design for manufacturability.
  • Build relationships with welding suppliers and network with the welding industry to bring innovative solutions and ideas to Robinson operations and engineering.
  • Provide consultation on production jobs, drawings, specifications, and design data for assigned projects.
  • Collaborate with Production and Project Management on identified or potential project welding issues.
  • Document design changes and update work instructions as required.
  • Conduct, train, and audit nondestructive testing methods (PT, MT, UT, RT) depending on the skill and experience level of a candidate.
  • Analyze and provide solutions for problems that adversely affect quality, productivity, safety, flexibility, and cost.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering
  • 2+ years' experience as a welding engineer preferred. Hands-on welding experience is preferred.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes related to welding and non-destructive test methods.
  • Experience taking products from R&D into production, including developing welding techniques to transition from manual to automated processes.
  • Project management experience working with internal customers and external vendors to deliver manufactured hardware within specified timelines and budgets.
  • Dedication to safety to mitigate hazards that may include fumes, heat, cold, strong magnets, and noise.
  • Occasional travel to Robinson production facilities and sub-vendors will be required, along with some nights/weekends/on-call working hours.
  • Strong experience in steel fabrication processes and technologies.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong employee/customer relations skills.
  • Travel 10%
