The Role
As a Data Scientist on the Product team at Valence, you'll establish the data-driven product development culture of our AI Coach, reporting into our Head of AI.
Your role will involve creating robust data pipelines, conducting rigorous A/B testing, and applying state-of-the-art Natural Language Understanding (NLU) techniques to extract insights from coaching interactions. Collaborating closely with our engineering, product and leadership team, you'll have a direct impact on shaping our AI coaching platform for Fortune 500 enterprises, combining the excitement of a fast-paced startup with the opportunity to work on transformative AI technology.

What You'll Do
- Embed with the product team as a trusted partner, uncovering new ways to improve our AI coaching platform's performance and user experience
- Develop and maintain data pipelines to process unstructured datasets
- Conduct rigorous A/B testing and statistical analysis to evaluate and optimize our AI models' effectiveness
- Develop and socialize dashboards, reports, and other ways of enabling the team and company to answer product questions in a self-serve way
- Apply the latest state-of-the-art machine learning and deep learning techniques to solve challenging problems in natural language understanding and generation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate data insights into innovative product features
- Implement robust testing and quality assurance processes for our AI models and data pipelines
- Stay at the forefront of AI advancements, particularly in NLP and conversational AI, and propose new applications for our platform
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, related field, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of professional experience (or equivalent) in software engineering, data science, AI/ML development. This could include a Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, ML, Data Science, or a related field, with a focus on machine learning or NLP.
- Strong programming skills in Python, with extensive experience in data analysis and machine learning libraries (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
- Hands-on experience working with large language models and natural language processing techniques
- Proficiency and experience with core data technologies (e.g., SQL, Spark)
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and their machine learning services
- Strong background in experimental design including relevant math / statistics
- Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
- Experience navigating highly ambiguous environments

Location and Work Environment
If candidates are based in NYC or Toronto they can work hybrid in our offices, otherwise this role can be remote. Candidates must be comfortable working with colleagues in different time zones (UK), and have valid travel documents without work authorization restrictions in the US.
