Responsibilities

  1. Analyze injury trends, assess exposures and controls, and target policyholders for receipt of occupational safety and health services.
  2. Determine how to most effectively and efficiently deliver occupational safety and health services to assigned policyholder accounts.
  3. Visit policyholders to evaluate occupational safety and health processes and exposures using a wide variety of methods and procedures. Identify and prioritize policyholder conditions and exposures requiring consultative intervention. Consult with policyholders to recommend sound safety and health strategies and injury prevention methods. Establish agreements and action plans.
  4. Utilize and implement behavior based safety approaches to enhance workplace safety cultures and reduce injuries in the workplace.
  5. Develop and assist policyholders with the implementation of safety management activities and programs to advance their overall safety culture, ensure their continued acceptability as a risk, and promote the retention of quality business.
  6. Monitor and document the progress made by policyholders in controlling losses and communicate updates to appropriate individuals. Compose detailed letters and reports to policyholders to identify problems and solutions, and outline recommendations and action plans.
  7. Utilize SAIF technology and systems to document work, analyze policyholder and book of business performance and develop service strategies to help policyholders control occupational injuries, illnesses, and incidents.
  8. Design, deliver, and facilitate occupational safety and health training to customers in a wide variety of industries and work settings.
  9. Provide Oregon-OSHA Division One services to policyholders.
  10. Confer with SAIF’s appointed agents and member associations for occupational safety and health problems and issues.
  11. Coordinate, confer, consult with, and leverage internal and external business partners to reduce claims frequency and improve loss ratios and SAIF’s book of business. Provide information and recommendations on the acceptability of new accounts and corrective action required for existing accounts.
  12. Collaborate with internal business partners on joint visits to policyholders.
  13. Explore diverse perspectives and consistently behave sensitively toward differences in cultural norms, expectations, and ways of communicating. Work effectively with others who have different perspectives, backgrounds, and/or work styles.
  14. Continually sustain the Inclusive Leadership Competencies (ILC) through the Explorer level on an annual basis.
  15. This position requires driving a SAIF vehicle or personal vehicle on behalf of SAIF. The incumbent is required to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license in their state of residence along with an acceptable driving record according to SAIF’s policy.

The following qualifications are recommended:

  1. Four years of increasingly responsible health and safety management or loss control experience providing consultative services to customers in insurance or other business environments.
  2. Coursework leading to a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar professional designation.
  3. Fluent Spanish-English bilingual skills are preferred, but not required.
  4. Other combinations of skills and experience may be considered.

Compensation & Benefits

Typical hiring range: $88,842 - $104,520. The pay range for this position is annually based on a full-time schedule. Actual compensation will be determined using factors such as experience, skills, training, certifications & education. SAIF provides a wide range of benefits to employees who work at least 20 hours per week, including health care, retirement savings plans, paid time off, and more. Full salary range: $78,390 - $130,650
