  • JOB SUMMARY
    • Collaborates with various hospital departments to ensure proper sterile supply process and management. Supports daily operations of Surgical Services and other clinical areas requiring sterile processing. This job is also responsible for data collection, inventory, and repair records as it pertains to surgical instruments and equipment. Reports to Surgical Services department clinical director. Coordinates and implements effective and timely care of surgical patients among all stakeholders. Actively plans for and develops effective process improvement solutions to comply with regulations and actively seek to improve patient care. Effectively manages and supervises associate performance in an effort to provide for patient care needs. Participate in system planning, budgeting, manpower planning and program development in accordance with AORN standards in order to deliver efficient, effective and quality patient care.
  • JOB SPECIFICATIONS
    • Education and/or experience: Associate's Degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred, 4 years in a healthcare related field. Supervisory experience preferred, Licensure, Registry, or Certification: CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing & Distribution Technican) from either CBSPD (Certification Board of Sterile Processing Distribution) or the IAGCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Sterile Service Material Management) required, Nursing License with CSPDT or CBSPD is acceptable.
    • Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of aseptic surgical technique and infection control practice, and sterile processing. Knowledge of Paragon or current BMH electronic documentation system and Kronos preferred.
    • Skills: Must have strong customer service skills. Computer skills necessary for reporting and data tracking. Able to assess, record, and communicate needs, concerns and issues as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems.
    • Abilities: Requires critical thinking/reasoning while intervening during critical and non-critical situations. Demonstrates skills in crisis management, decision-making, communication skills, and promotion inter-disciplinary cooperation.
