Job Overview

Davies Life & Health is looking for aSenior Software Developer who will set architectural direction and system development standards, as well as directly contribute to the design and development of new applications to support business needs. As the Senior Software Developer, you will provide design leadership and support on existing systems and provide insight on cost-effective solutions. You will be responsible for all system-related problems, assist all business analysts and end users with technical issues, and provide technical coaching and mentoring to team members.

To be successful in this role, you must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience working with software development, possess strong technical skills, have experience developing systems using C#, Visual basic, .NET and SQL Server, and possess the ability to work both collaboratively and independently.You must be proactive and take initiative as this is a full-time, fully home-based position .

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Participate in and/or lead the effort in the evaluation of business requirements and processes, preparation of application system specifications and the development, testing and implementation of efficient, cost-effective applications solutions
  • Provide design leadership and set direction for new systems development
  • Establish procedures for change control and product migration
  • Assume responsibility and ownership for all systems and system related problems, regardless of current assignment
  • Review documented business requirements and test plans and provide technical feedback to Business Analysts
  • Ensure quality through thorough unit testing of all code and participating in systems integrated testing
  • Assist Business Analysts and End Users with any technical issues during systems integrated testing, parallel testing, training sessions and demonstrations
  • Provide on-call support for the production systems on a rotating basis
  • Maintain existing applications adhering to the established architecture and standards for that application
  • Write technical documentation in support of assigned projects
  • Document all code using format established by the project
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships and communication with the team, other co-workers, management, clients and vendors
  • Provide technical coaching and mentoring to other members of the systems development team

Experience and Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or related field, or an equivalent combination of experience
  • Three to five years’ software development experience
  • Experience in developing systems using C#, Visual Basic, .NET and SQL Server
  • Experience in working with Microsoft Word and Excel

Preferred

  • Insurance industry experience preferred
  • Experience with WPF, Web Service Development and MVC is preferred
  • Experience in developing mainframe systems using COBOL, VSAM, and MVS preferred

Position Type, Work Environment and Physical Demands

This is a full-time, home-based, salaried, exempt position that predominantly operates remotely from a professional home-based office environment routinely using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, photocopiers, and scanners and requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk while working on a computer. While performing the duties of this job, the individual will be required to regularly hear and talk. This is a largely sedentary role requiring the ability to sit at a desk, reach outward, use a phone, have use of fingers to operate office equipment such as a keyboard, mouse, phone, printer, copier, and to reach above the head, bend, or stand as necessary.
