Job Summary
Scottsdale Community College (SCC) is currently looking for a full-time Student Services Specialist in the Veterans Services Office. This position will serve as a secondary VA School Certifying Official by reviewing claims for VA benefits and pre-certifying. The Student Services Specialist will assist students with questions related to VA benefits and assist with coordinating and directing VA Work Study work flow, training, and daily responsibilities.
Essential Functions
50% - Directly assists veteran students and their dependents through activities such as advising and counseling on educational benefit programs, discussing key aspects of the enrollment services process, researches and troubleshoots issues that prohibit or affect enrollment certification.
20% - Assist in coordinating and directing Veterans Services VA Work Study work flow, training, and daily responsibilities. Performs other duties as assigned.
15% - Assist in preparing files for auditing by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the State Approving Agency, and the Department of Defense.
15% - Assist in coordinating events & activities to support veteran students.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution, and one year full-time of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.
OR
An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.
Desired Qualifications
A. Bachelor's degree or higher.
B. One (1) or more years' experience as a School Certifying Official (SCO)
C. One (1) or more years' extensive customer service experience working with a diverse population.
D. One (1) or more years' experience working in an enrollment services area with constant customer contact in-person, via phone, and through email.
E. Experience using computer systems effectively including, but not limited to, student information systems, VAOnce, online databases, email, Google Drive, and Microsoft Office software
Special Working Conditions
Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate's own expense.
May be required to travel or be assigned to other MCCCD locations.
May be required to work evenings and weekends.
May require prolonged periods of sitting and viewing a computer screen.
May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs.
