Salary Range: Placement on the adjunct faculty salary schedule is based upon education and credited experience. Pending any course assignment, initial placement can range as follows: Lab Course - $75.48 up to $103.03 per hour. Lecture Course - $87.88 up to $118.85.

The Position

The Colleges seek a part-time faculty member in Hospitality Tourism Management. The ideal candidate will share the College’s commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. This position is a “pool” position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. The District maintains a “pool” of applications for positions which are needed on an ongoing basis at Cañada College, College of San Mateo, and Skyline College.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential functions include the following:

  1. Provide effective classroom instruction in Hospitality Tourism Management using methods and materials appropriate to the subject matter including on campus, hybrid, online and off-site instruction.
  2. Prepare and grade all class assignments, and/or examinations and projects.
  3. Advise, assist and evaluate students, evaluate learning outcomes and maintain regular office hours.
  4. Participate in program activities including curriculum and program planning, development, evaluation, and decision making as well as the development of new teaching-learning methods and materials.
  5. Contribute to the development of program policies and procedures.
  6. Maintain accurate and timely student records as required.
  7. Maintain expertise in current teaching and discipline technologies.
  8. Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  9. Participation in departmental and college professional activities and/or committees is welcomed, but not required.
  10. Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Possession of any Bachelor’s degree AND two years of professional experience in the field; OR an Associate’s degree AND six years of professional experience in the field; OR the equivalent.

• Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice both within and outside of the classroom.

Conditions of Employment

Prior to employment, the selected candidate will be required to complete the following:

  1. Submit official transcripts.
  2. Submit verifications of prior employment.
  3. Satisfactory references.
  4. Successfully being cleared for employment through the background checking process.
  5. Present original documents for proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  6. Approval of your employment by the SMCCCD Board of Trustees.
  7. Provide a certificate of Tuberculosis exam for initial employment.
  8. Have fingerprints taken by a Live Scan computer.
