JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Pharmacy Automation and Technology
Clinical Pharmacy Informatics and Charging
Oversees pharmacy's support of med build and maintenance of medication-related content in the electronic health record and build in pharmacy technology systems to assure safe and appropriate use of medications, as well as coordination of governance committees, such as the Medication Management Committee.
Effectively manages projects using proven process improvement tools to optimize the organization's medication-use system.
Develops collaborative relationships across the Division of Pharmacy, Information Services, other healthcare professionals, and external vendors.
Personnel Management
Oversees effective training related to technology and automation for students, residents, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
Other Duties as Assigned

REQUIREMENTS
Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
Preferred Education: Master's degree in Informatics, Pharmacy Administration, or related field.
Certification: Texas State Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist license within 90 days of job entry.
Preferred Certification: Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS), EPIC Certification, and Board of Pharmaceutical Specialty Certification (BCPS).
Required Experience:
Post Graduate Year 1 (Pharmacy Practice) and Post Graduate Year 2 (in the area of specialization) residency -OR- at least two years of equivalent experience as a pharmacist for each year of residency. Five years experience in practice area of specialization to include three years in a lead, supervisory, or project management capacity. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.
Preferred Experience: Pharmacy Informatics and/or Automation and Technology experience.
Five years hospital pharmacy experience.
Proficiency with Epic Willow and/or Beacon applications.
Pharmacy supervisory or management experience.

Pharmacy Automation and Technology
- Oversees management of pharmacy technology applications users, formulary, and other system requirements. Coordinates efforts with application vendors in resolving outstanding issues and enhancement requests.
- Oversees the selection, maintenance, and optimization of all pharmacy technology applications, including but not limited to infusion pumps, automated dispensing cabinets, inventory management systems, controlled substances inventory system, and IV management software.
- Provides leadership, coordination, and direction to complete assigned project tasks, produce required deliverables, track and resolve issues, and meet the relevant project milestones.
- Stays up to date on advancements in pharmacy technology, promotes innovation, and seeks regular input on the evolving technology needs within the Division of Pharmacy.
- Manages the routine maintenance and supports tasks required for all pharmacy technology applications.
- Oversees the upgrades and replacement/selection of all pharmacy technology applications.
- Oversees the build, testing, and validation for all pharmacy technology applications.
- Responsible for all complex reporting and dashboards for pharmacy technology applications.
Clinical Pharmacy Informatics and Charging
- Manages the maintenance of the Pharmacy Charge Description Master (CDM) as well as medication charge capture and pharmacy revenue integrity activities within the electronic health record.
- Monitors processes for managing pharmacy billing issues and provides oversight on corrective action plans.
Oversees pharmacy's support of med build and maintenance of medication-related content in the electronic health record and build in pharmacy technology systems to assure safe and appropriate use of medications, as well as coordination of governance committees, such as the Medication Management Committee.

- Oversees and prioritizes the evaluation and optimization of medication-related decision support.
Develops collaborative relationships across the Division of Pharmacy, Information Services, other healthcare professionals, and external vendors.
- Coordinates and participates in the investigation and response to safety events related to pharmacy informatics and technology.
- Oversees the response to pharmacy charging-related audits and supports institutional efforts to improve medication-related reimbursement.
Personnel Management
- Defines the roles and responsibilities of assigned employees, monitors workload metrics, assists with prioritization of external requests, and maintains appropriate staffing levels.
- Manages position descriptions, competency assessments, position requests, position justifications, recruitment, new-employee training, as well as annual performance evaluations.
- Manages time off requests for assigned employees to ensure appropriate coverage.
- Provides clear direction and communication to employees within the department.
- Appropriately documents and applies institutional policies and procedures to address employee performance or conduct issues.
- Promotes and maintains constructive intra and interdepartmental relationships by working collaboratively to achieve departmental and divisional goals and outcomes.
