JOB OVERVIEW:
Under the supervision of the Director of Risk Management Sustainability, the Insurance Manager is responsible for all insurance functions and the development and administration of risk related programs. This position requires a strategic approach to identifying the best insurance coverage options, negotiating terms with insurers, and maintaining compliance with relevant regulations. By effectively balancing coverage needs with cost considerations, the Insurance Manager will support the organization's objectives by safeguarding assets and minimizing financial liabilities. The position will require risk analysis expertise and an ability to develop mitigation strategies while providing guidance on insurance matters to improve the organization's resilience.

JOB DUTIES:
  • Oversee the management of insurance programs, including liability, property, workers' compensation, and more. This involves soliciting bids, negotiating terms, reviewing policies, monitoring coverage, and recommending adjustments to ensure comprehensive protection for the GPA.
  • Review, renew, and monitor all bonds associated with the GPA, such as Bid, Payment and Performance, Honest and Faithful Performance, Warehouseman's, and U.S. Customs bonds.
  • Liaise with commercial insurance brokers, underwriters, legal counsel, insurance professionals, consultants, and relevant state agencies as needed.
  • Address inquiries related to the GPA's insurance programs, perform routine reporting for insurance policies, and conduct year-end policy and site audits as required.
  • Develop and publish an annual insurance budget and contribute to the Risk Sustainability Annual Report.
  • Set standards, negotiate, and approve all third-party insurance requirements for Purchasing, Engineering, Properties, Contracts, and other special cases. This includes managing a pre-certification program for select vendors, providing indemnification language, and ensuring proof of insurance for third-party vendors and contractors.
  • Supervise a direct report responsible for various tasks, including data entry across multiple platforms, ordering office supplies, conducting orientation training, and handling SAP invoicing and budget entries.
  • Collaborate with business units to assess, identify, and mitigate potential loss exposures.
  • Participate in a 24-hour on-call rotation to evaluate liability exposures, implement loss mitigation strategies, and administer drug and alcohol testing in line with GPA policies.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Ability to supervise and coordinate projects. Ability to work independently and prepare staff-level recommendations and/or presentations. Ability to exercise positive leadership with people. Expert-level working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required. Experience with PowerPoint, Access, and Microsoft Outlook desired. Good oral and written communication skills required. Ability to deal effectively and professionally with the GPA staff on all levels as well as customers and the general public required. Perform assessments utilizing market trends to tailor insurance solutions that mitigate or transfer risk. Use of SAP desired.
Experience
  • 4-6 years Minimum experience or other qualifying experience Required
  • Knowledge of Risk Management to include Insurance, Safety, Claims, Risk and Finance Preferred
Education
  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree in Risk Management, Business Management or related field preferred.
Licenses Certifications
  • Certified Risk Management Professional (RIMS-CRMP) Insurance related professional designations such as Associate in Risk Managment (ARM), Customer Relationship Management (CRM) or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) desired Preferred
  • TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential Required Upon Hire
  • Driver's License - Valid state driver's license Required Upon Hire
