Job Description

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys is recruiting a Geologist 4 position to work with the Energy Resources Section, based in either Fairbanks or Anchorage. The successful applicant will be tasked with developing and managing a geothermal energy program that collects, analyzes and publishes relevant data. This multidisciplinary program aims to attract geothermal exploration investment and promote development success.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Developing and implementing focused research projects.
  • Securing external project funding.
  • Supervising technical staff.
  • Establishing collaborations with other researchers.
  • Publishing technical reports and maps.
  • Leading outreach efforts to industry.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, geological engineering, engineering geology, or any of their subdivisions, including mining engineering.
AND
Three years of journey professional experience in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, geological engineering, engineering geology, or any of their subdivisions, including mining engineering. This experience is met by service as a Geologist 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.

Who We Are Looking For:

  • Geothermal Geology and/or Geophysics and allied subdisciplines such as:
    • geochemistry, hydrology, structural geology, geomechanics, mineralogy and petrology, stratigraphy, geologic mapping, volcanology, and/or remote sensing
    • Magnetotellurics, gravity, magnetics, electromagnetics, and/or seismology
  • Project Management
  • Oral and Written Communication
