Job Requirements / Description

An energy trading and marketing firm in Chicago is searching for an experienced Energy Commercial Analyst to join its Commercial Operations / Front Office team, which supports oil, gas, power, and environmental products trading. This team develops commercial trading views and structures longer-term trading transactions. The position analyzes market data, models physical assets and complex structured transactions, and optimizes trading strategies through hedging and risk management.


Key responsibilities include:

  1. Market Analysis: Monitor and analyze energy market trends, prices, and supply/demand dynamics. Based on market data, provide insights and recommendations to support trading decisions. Develop and maintain market models and forecasting tools.
  2. Deal Structure: Partner with energy physical trading and origination to develop and model complex deal structures, including cash flow analysis.
  3. Optimization: Partner with key internal stakeholders to identify optimization opportunities and hedging/risk mitigation strategies.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. (Advanced degree is preferred.)
  2. 2+ years of experience in fundamental analysis, structuring, or quantitative analysis supporting energy trading (oil, natural gas, power, solar, carbon emissions, etc.).
  3. Strong understanding of physical energy markets (oil, electricity, natural gas, etc.).
  4. Proficiency in data analysis tools and software (Excel, SQL, Python, R, etc.).
  5. Excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
  6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Employees work three days in the Chicago office and two remotely.
