Job Description: Full Time Interventional Cardiologist
Anticipated Start Date and/or Timeframe: January/February 2025
Position Summary
· We are recruiting for a highly skilled and dedicated Interventional Cardiologist (IC) to join 5 other full time IC physicians on our team.
· This full-time (10/10th) position is based at the Regional Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (RCCL) located at the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center (KP LAMC). No travel is expected.
Key Responsibilities
· Perform the full range of IC procedures, including but not limited to: coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), and structural heart diseases (SHD) interventions (e.g., TAVR, TEER).
· Provide real-time consultation for rotating RCCL cardiologists and other colleagues.
· Answer questions from, and provide advice to, colleagues throughout the KP So Cal region via the KP electronic medical record system (e-consults), KP email, or other formal and informal channels.
· Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., cardiology, cardiac surgery, cardiac anesthesiology, and EP) to ensure comprehensive and complete patient care.
· Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in managing fluid scheduling and patient care situations.
· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of advancements in IC and incorporate new techniques and technologies into clinical practice.
· Participate in research activities and clinical trials and thus contributing to the advancement of IC practices and treatments.
· Serve as a role model and mentor for RCCL staff/trainees and uphold our culture of excellence, compassion, and professionalism.
· Lead and participate in the educational and training activities for the entire RCCL team, including the nurses and techs.
Qualifications
· MD or DO with board certification in CVD and subspecialty IC board certification or eligibility (if within 3 years of completion of training).
· Valid and unrestricted CA medical license.
· Demonstrated expertise in the full breadth of IC and SHD interventional procedures.
· Must be proficient in radial artery, femoral artery, and alternative vascular access (for SHD interventions).
· Exceptional patient care and clinical skills, with the ability to manage complex cases and adapt to rapidly changing clinical scenarios.
· Exhibit unparalleled flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to seamlessly adjust to a dynamic RCCL environment. This includes responding effectively to changes in schedules, patient needs, and procedural demands.
· Possess a resilient personality and the temperament suited for a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment, while demonstrating the ability to maintain composure, make critical decisions under pressure, and always adapt to unforeseen challenges with professionalism and courtesy.
· Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively teach and mentor staff and fellows.
· Be able to conduct clinical research, with the capability to design, implement, and oversee studies that contribute to the advancement of IC. The ideal candidate should be experienced in navigating the complexities of research projects and adept at translating research findings into practical clinical applications.
Other Details
· Five days (8 hrs/day) per week in the RCCL.
· Staff one RCCL suite as the sole IC (along with an IC fellow) every 6th weekend.
· Weekly pager calls every 6th week.
· Work department: Regional Cardiac Cath Lab at the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center.
· Department size: 6 full time RCCL physicians and 20 rotating cardiologists from other Kaiser medical centers.
· Case volume per day: avg. 5-6 (range 4-7)
· Travel: none required
