The global accounting organization supports our financial reporting, internal control, intercompany, and transfer pricing activities and also supports new business launches globally for Amazon in the consumer products, digital initiatives, merchant, operations, logistics, payments, and cloud computing lines of business.
The Global Financial Risk and Controls (GFRC) Team oversees internal controls over financial reporting, subsidiary compliance, internal controls readiness, process improvements, and other enterprise compliance activities. We are a subject matter expertise team that builds, designs, and consults with control owners across the enterprise (Accounting, Business, Engineering/IT, HR, etc.). Responsibilities include enhancing and leveraging internal and external partnerships to assist the controls leader with the annual program plan including the changes to controls framework, its execution, and enterprise-wide process improvement initiatives. This role will require a deep understanding and experience with all aspects of internal controls including financial information technology systems for a complex, high-growth stage, multi-disciplinary organization.
Requirements for this position also include a deep knowledge of the COSO 2013 framework and SEC/PCAOB regulations, as well as the demonstrated ability to design and monitor an effective global risk-based internal control environment.
We are currently looking for experienced candidates who have held similar positions in large public companies or who have held a similar position within the advisory practice of a Big 4 public accounting firm serving Fortune 500 clients for 5+ years. Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively to accomplish challenges will be expected as this is an ongoing requirement for this position. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate they were top performers at their level.

Key job responsibilities

  1. Executing on controls strategies
  2. Driving control design and implementation with engineering, business, and accounting teams
  3. Contributing to deep dives on process areas to define the set of risk and controls in addressing financial reporting risk
  4. Ensuring there are adequate controls over critical components of the ecosystem
  5. Advising on and designing controls and compliance programs
  6. Providing ongoing support to process owners/control owners and cross-functional teams to ensure controls are designed and implemented effectively
  7. Participating in annual walkthroughs with process/application/control owners across the company and external auditors
  8. Supporting the quarterly 302 sub-certification process and related reporting
  9. Assisting in the evaluation of identified control deficiencies and monitoring of remediation efforts
  10. Assisting with system implementation and migration and respective SDLC controls

About the team

GFRC team’s key purpose is to preserve Amazon’s financial reputation by promoting strong controllership that supports internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) designed to provide reasonable assurance that Amazon’s consolidated and statutory financial statements are complete and accurate. We partner closely with our global customers to identify and mitigate key financial reporting risks to achieve the company’s control objectives. We do this by maintaining the overall ICFR framework in the GRC platform and supporting the teams responsible for designing, documenting, executing, and assessing their processes, systems, and controls in their respective business environments.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 6+ years of compliance, audit or risk management experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Experience of increasing responsibility leading teams and driving technology risk management processes, methodologies, and tools
  • IT Internal controls experience in a publicly traded company or public accounting

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Public accounting experience in assurance or advisory roles for large global publicly traded companies
  • Skilled in IT risk analysis and making operational and technical trade-offs between short versus long-term risk mitigation goals
  • Multidisciplinary experience in risk management, program management and accounting and deep experience with ITGCs
  • Proven ability to take ownership, self-motivate, and deliver results in highly ambiguous environments
  • Aptitude for leading teams; influencing and galvanizing others to follow you toward a solution
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement, problem solve, and make decisions in complex situations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive level presentations
  • Ability to thrive in a startup-like environment

Compensation: Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $109,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
