Position: Design Engineer - Spanish/English Bilingual

Location: Plymouth, MI (Hybrid)

Hours: 8am - 5pm

Salary: $67-90K (DOE)


Job Description:

The company is seeking a talented and motivated Design Engineer to join our dynamic team in Plymouth, MI. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing new parts made through injection molding and formed metal, ensuring that they meet customer specifications and industry standards. Key Responsibilities:

  • Feasibility Analysis: Determine the feasibility of parts for quotes, considering design, material, and manufacturing constraints.
  • Part Design: Design new parts using injection molding and formed metal techniques.
  • Technical Drawings: Create detailed technical drawings and specifications.
  • Testing Plans: Develop and implement testing plans to ensure product quality and reliability.
  • DFMEA: Conduct Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) to identify potential design risks and implement corrective actions.
  • Customer Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with customers to ensure their needs and expectations are met.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality, and procurement, to ensure seamless project execution.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Spanish/English Bilingual skills
  • 3D Modeling: Proficiency in 3D modeling using Catia, NX, or SolidWorks.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Strong mechanical inclination for problem-solving and creative thinking.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Attention to Detail: High attention to detail and accuracy in technical drawings and documentation.
  • Team Player: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with various departments.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Design Engineering, or a related field.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience: Previous experience in automotive component design or related fields.
  • Plastics Knowledge: Knowledge of plastics such as POM, PP, PA6, and PCABS.
  • Metals Knowledge: Understanding of metals and their surface treatments, including phosphate, zinc electroplating, zinc-aluminum coating, and heat treatment processes.
  • IATF Process: Familiarity with IATF standards and processes.
